So with all the arguing over Razer Comms, Skype etc. I'm here using Steam voice chat.

Why not? People are saying the Razer overlay and the fact that it tells you what games your friends are playing is a bonus. Well Steam has a better overlay with more functionality an integrated web browser and you can do more than just see what games your friends are playing, you can join them, invite them and trade with them. It's like Razer Comms... but better?

The only thing I can obviously see Razer Comms has over Steam is the separate channels but for personal use I much prefer Steam chat. I occasionally use TS3 as it's required of me sometimes but I don't see the need to open up Razer Comms and have another overlay that doesn't work as well as the one that all of my friends are already on and my games are integrated into.

What's your opinion on Steam chat for voice communication.

They had to pick a platform that they could get sponsorship from. I doubt microsoft or valve would sponsor them.

I like steam voice chat and the steam overlay itself a lot.

but steam's webbrowser is awefully slow when loading pages.
So I often find myself alttabbing out of the game and using my trusted firefox for webbrowsing.

the quality in general isn't as good as the skype quality imho.

Why do I use skype? because all my stubborn friends use skype!

I wasn't really talking about what Linus is using, people just never seem to mention it. I've seen a few threads on the forums arguing back and forth about Razer Comms and Skype etc. but I've never seen anyone mention Steam chat. I was just curious as to why people tend to stray away from it so much.

Teamspeak is the best software out there, just no question about that.

I don't like Steam's voice chat. It seems primitive when compared to other platforms.

I like steam and hope that they improve their voice chat service, the regular type chat is fine but the voice chat is what is currently holding steam back in terms of being a great VOIP chat client.

I think they know this and I believe they are currently trying to remedy that.

I love the steam voice chat. The only thing about it is that there is a large delay.

I use Teamspeak + ACRE if I'm playing Arma, because of a lower delay and the ACRE mod. For everything else I use Steam.

I don't think that Steam chat would work with the call ins, because of the lack of groups and what not.

Skype and steamchat both don't have push to talk, or at least I could not find a way to enable those.

I prefer mumble, due to its simple interface, great sound quality, and low latency. If it were less buggy and better at banning people, then it would be the best program out there.

It's free, so they aren't going to use it, unfortunately.
