980 Ti is a great card. Probably should get it unless you want to wait for a long time.

Get the 980ti if you need better performance right now. Wait if you don't. Actually, that's the advice for almost every generation...

I'm still using a 7950 lol. I was thinking of waiting for Pascal because of the HBM architecture it will incorporate, and HBM will probably be around for a few more years after that. If the Fury X hadn't been such of a disappointment, i would've gotten it.

Just considering this since GDDR5 MAY become obsolete soon.

They have been releasing Titans in February the last few years. Who knows if they'll have Pascal ready that early though?

Could be ...

If you have the patience , I would say yes , wait for it ...

Possibly, but from 700 series to 900 series, it took slightly more than a year. May be the same for 900 series to 1000 series since the 900 series was released in Sep 2014, i highly doubt Pascal is coming out in Sep 2015 so possibly Mar - May 2016?

With AMD releasing their HBM already this year, i'm sure Nvidia is not too far behind.

I wouldn't wait. I would just buy a 980ti if I needed a new card. The thing just came out and they're not going to come out with anything better anytime soon. So much time will be wasted waiting while you can just play games on ultra right now.

z87 4670k

HD 7950

1440p monitor. Planning to play AAA titles, not all but most of them.

I was actually thinking of a 980 too, but the 980 ti seems to have better price to performance. Which 980 did you get?

Should i get the 980Ti now, or wait for Pascal? In general, which month does Nvidia release their new cards?

This is the history of nvidia releases :

580 -> 680 = Nov 2010 -> Mar 2012 = 16 months
680 -> 780 = Mar 2012 -> May 2013 = 14 months
780 -> 980 = May 2013 -> Sep 2014 = 16 months

780ti -> 980 = Nov 2013 -> Sept 2014 = 10 months
980ti June 2015

x80 to x80 average = 15 months
x80ti to x80 = 10 months

So that would mean a new 1080 between :

Mar 2016 and April 2016

For the last 3 generations you could predict the launch window within 1 or 2 months on a 14-16month turn around.  So its a pretty good guess.

gosh darn it!!!  I have a gtx 670 SC 4gb edition at the moment but I really want a card that can handle 4k games maxed out for which I believe Pascal is the answer.  My upgrades are usually meant for the very long haul so waiting for Pascal is going to kill me.

:(

I just hope I don't break down and buy the 980ti.  I still can't believe AMD didn't give us hdmi 2.0.....they must be on crack or something.  Some of us like to play 4k games with our behemoth 4k uhdtv's.  Thank God for nvidia.

Your move should be to a 970. I was in your situation with the 7950. It's still a very good card but sitting in a anti static bag right now.

If you have the 7950 you're probably going to love the 980 Ti but then you won't NEED pascal but you'll have a great resale value. Always think about the resale value. I like to buy 2nd hand because let's face it...as fast as Tech moves, there's always something better around the corner, why waste money unless you CAN waste it.

I can honestly say I didn't want a Titan X when it came out because I know it's just not worth it, but the 980 Ti is pretty dang tempting. Hopefully when Pascal comes out I can get a used 980 Ti or if Pascals midrange cards beat the 980 Ti then go for that.

I actually bought a 970 used it for about a week and sold it and managed to make a profit xD. I sold it with the intention to buy the 980Ti but Amazon doesn't seem to have stock for the hybrid version.

The longer I wait, the more I'm doubting myself to buy it.
