Best RAM For Gaming?

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

It makes like 1% difference, any ram above 1600mhz is fine for gaming, 2400mhz is beneficial for certain tasks but not gaming

Faster timings like CA9 is better than CAS 10 and 11 but again makes very little difference

Hello, I'm building a PC that I want to be able to game on in high quality and also be able to multi-task on it and host severs for me and my friends to play on e.g. minecraft, tf2, game servers etc.

I was planning on using 2 x 8gb 2400mh Vengeance Pro RAM, but I did some research and I understand a high clock speed doesn't necessarily mean better performance. My build has a Red and Black theme and I would like the RAM to match is this the best RAM for me (performance wise) or is there a better alternative?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions and or general advice. :D

Well unless the guy was running an APU Setup where higher speed ram seems to help out, then any decent quality ram would do :).

I think higher ram speed is more for content creation stuff, or just for having a bigger E Pen, or maybe aesthetics since they put fancy heatspreaders on them.

For normal Intel/ AMD CPU + Nvidia / AMD GPU

CAS 8 to 10 1600-1866 MHz

For AMD APU

2133-2400 MHz

Cas 9 to 11 (lower CAS will just cost so much that the setup itself will be too expensive to be worth it)

For X99 Intel

DDR4

2666-3000 MHz

CAS 12 to 14

EDIT

Reputable Brands

G-Skill

Corsair (doesnt make their own RAM)

Kingston/HyperX (HyperX is Kingstons "luxury/premium" brand) (makes their own RAM i think)

Samsung (makes their own RAM)

AMD (AMD is just buying their RAM of the supplier for Crucial or Corsair i think it was. AMD RAM supports AMP, AMDs version of XMP)

Only APUs (AMD's A series) and Intel CPUs when you are using integrated graphics will benefit significantly with high bandwidth RAM but if you are using a discrete GPU then RAM between 800 to 2400 MHz have no significant real world benefit.
