Slow internet..

Hey guys, I want some help trying to convince my parents to upgrade our internet it is currently 6Mb/s down and 0.6Mb/s up (Yes megabits) and also convince them to let me put a Pfsense box on the modem (So I can monitor the network and use QoS) The highest package that out internet provider is 24Mb/s down and either 4Mb/s up or 2Mb/s up (Depends on if they are going to run a bonded connection with 2 12/1 or 12/2 dsl connections)

Just take a look at other ISP's prices and call up your ISP saying that they should give better speeds, otherwise you will switch to another ISP.

Tell them you need the internet to learn.

This actually got my dad some pretty good deals on our internet. All he said was that he'd be switching over and they gave us a really nice deal on highspeed internet and cable, the cable isn't great but the internet is pretty good. I think in total he pays like 75-90$ a month for everything. The deal will end in like 4 months but by then we'll be switching to a new provider anyways

I just post in pretty much all the threads I have something to add to.

It's just a coincidence, I swear :P

All he said was that he'd be switching over and they gave us a really nice deal on highspeed internet and cable, the cable isn't great but the internet is pretty good. I think in total he pays like 75-90$ a month for everything. The deal will end in like 4 months but by then we'll be switching to a new provider anyways

Yeah, they don't like to hear that you want to switch so if you say that they will often give you a deal

Again who am I going to switch to? My other option is to use Dial-Up but I would cry myself to sleep every night if I had to do that...

Also the 24Mb/s internet is pretty cheap (I guess) it is only $65 (We don't bundle since we have cell phones and netflix and "Other Means of TV") :P

You don't really have to actually switch. Just bluff them and see if they give you a nice deal. I only pay like 80$ for this

Well.... if you're not paying for it, you don't really have much say in it. After all, you're leeching off your parent's internet, if they're happy, they probably won't upgrade.

I pay rent (1/4 of everything) so I think I have s say in it atleast a little bit..
