New mATX motherboard suggestions

Go to solution Solved by Emanuel_M,

yes, all I need for sli/crossfire is x8 for each card, so that means I can put one 2.5 slot card at the top, and then I can put the other one in the bottom most slot and both cards will be running in x8 right?

yes

edit no

first 16x pcie 3.0

second 16x pcie 3.0

last 16x pcie 2.0

if using http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20Z97M%20Killer/

the asus boards have the last pcie slot at 4x speed

Ok, so I have been having a lot of PC problems lately, and one of does is that my MOBO died, and I have a Corsair 350D so I have to get a mATX board. I had an ASUS Gryphon z97 mobo. Should I get the same one or get a new better one? budget limit is like $220. Also I want one with all the PCIE slots to be x16 so I can sli/crossfire 2 and half slot GPUs if need be

Thats a pretty modern motherboard, and it is likely within warranty.  Have you tried RMA?

I actually have tried, but it's been tinkered with since it was my cousin's first and warranty is voided, but I have to money to get another one

I would get a GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5, not sure if it can SLI 2.5 slot cards though.

Can I sli/crossfire with one 2.5 card at the top, and the other 2.5 card at the bottom pcie slot?

suggest asrock z97m oc formula

and asrock fatal1ty since they both have native 16x pcie 3.0 2slots

edit first slot will always be 16x pcie 3.0 rest are pcie 3.0 8x but speeds will be fine 3.0 8x = 2.0 16x

Do you think that I can fit 2 2.5 cards on the ASUS Maximus VII gene?

  • Expansion Slots
    2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8)

    1 x PCIe 2.0 x4 *1

    1 x mini-PCIe 2.0 x1

idk might need a atx case instead of matx case

what about the ASUS gryphon z97

2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (Single at x16, dual at x8/x8, )

1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black)

1 x PCIe x1

Can I fit one 2.5 slot card at the top then another 2.5 slot card at the bottom?

I think I'm going to risk it maybe, if people on my other post can agree what I should get lol

they will both run at 8x cuz the mobo has to split the lanes. regardless if the first is 16x sli with match the pci lanes so say 3way sli the first slot is 16x and the rest is 8x so it will be 8x 8x 8x put it won't be bad because pcie gen 3 is really fast
