i5 2500?

So I bought this used Sandy Bridge i5 dirt cheap for around 75 bucks. I stress-tested it using Aida64 Extreme and the max temp I reached was 66~68 celsius while being cooled by a stock Intel cooler and some cheap thermal paste.

 

I've been wondering how long would this CPU play games without any issues, and are the temps okay?

My friend is using a 2500K (slightly overclocked) with his GTX 970 and it can keep up just fine.

It will last some time still.

CPU's last longer then GPU's, you will be okay for a fair bit.

Sandy Bridge is still going strong and is able to keep up with the more recent hardware (see my rig )

Temps are fine with the stock cooler, however you might be wanting to look into some cheap (and better) 3rd party cooler.

 

EDIT: Just saw this is the non-K version, so you won't do any overclocking. Stock cooler should be fine.

Dude I work with runs an i5 2500k @ over 4GHz, no issues whatsoever.

 

I only bought what I now run because I didn't have the money at the time of Sandybridge being new and I've had bad luck with 2nd hand stuff the past month or 2. Very, very viable.

Amazing CPU, 4.5 years after launch it's still a first rate gaming CPU. With Skylake and Kaby Lake looking like they're not going to be very major upgrades, I bet that's still a good gaming CPU in 2017.

I have i5 2400 paired up with a gtx 960 on my other rig, and it runs just as well as my 4690k. You're good for a while dude.
