Well they need something to show off, so using one of the best ultrabooks around is probably a good way to go about promoting it, i guess they both benefit from this deal

It's possible Microsoft is just using the XPS 13 because it makes a good showcase for 10. 

That's probably why they blacked out the Dell logo (even though they used something that can easily be identified). Since W10 is meant for keyboard and mouse I'm guessing touchscreens might start disappearing from Windows laptops again?

Why would Microsoft not promote vendor PC? They run Windows?

In fact, Microsoft at BUILD and I think even Ignite event showcases many coming soon laptops, all-in-one and desktops from manufactures on stage.

In this case, Dell didn't pay, and Microsoft didn't want to have favoritism, so they use a nice looking ultrabook, which could make people curious that such system exists, but not reveal the brand name.

Not really. The XPS 13 is a beautiful ultrabook, so why wouldn't they showcase their new operating system on it?
