I personally wouldn't get any of those. For me the bare minimum is a Haswell i3 and I'd still wait a bit more and get an i5 4440/4460.

If I was forced to get one of these I'd get the fx6300, because 2 cores are just not enough. And if your plan is to get the pentium and upgrade in the future, why not wait a bit more and get a locked i5 instead of wasting money? Also there is the big question of what GPU are you using. This poll is just way too out of context to receive adequate answers.

we dont know maybe they will be better or maybe not do you think that broadwell will have better igpu than zen apus

No, they won't. Especially the FX 8350-since its a quad core with its integer units split in 2. And clock for clock Phenom II's are a lot faster. (And we are past the days of clock speed being everything, my i5 4440 is faster single threaded for example than an FX 8320 or FX 8350 above 5.3GHz. And at 4GHz my Xeon X5450 is faster single threaded than an FX 8350, and its an even older 45nm processor).

 

This is wrong.  Phenom cores are not a lot faster.  They are roughly the same as steamroller cores, clock for clock.

 

Look at this single-threaded performance chart, and compare the Phenom II 980 (3.7GHz) vs. the 860K (3.7GHz, turbo to 4GHz).  The 860K comes out ahead, and as I say, the Steamroller cores can be clocked higher than 4GHz, whereas Phenom's tend to top out around 4GHz.

My unlocked X3 Deneb runs at 3.9GHz, and in this benchmark it tops out at 1400 in single-threaded performance.  A stock 8350 or 860K beats it, and overclocked the gap widens.

 

I personally wouldn't buy or recommend an AMD CPU today, but if I had to I'd go with the 860K since you can pair it with a mobo for ~$130 USD.

Intel is ways ahead with the manufacturing process though. I don't think they can catch intel at all.

The 860K is 4-core. It's also the highest clocked. It's the best for a budget gaming rig. This isn't for a build. It's just your opinion.

Yes, an i3 with Iris Pro 6200 would be a nightmare for AMD, but I think Intel makes more money by focusing on their higher-margin products. Intel would rather sell an i5 or i7 than an i3, and certain clients for whom Broadwell is targeted (Apple for example) are happy to continue buying lots and lots of i5's and i7's.

How would you guarantee that Zen will be disappointing if you don't know? Linguistics aside, I don't think it really matters whether Zen is the best thing in the world or not. All it has to do is to be equal to Intel's current offerings, and that will be great already. Especially for people like me who would never want Intel CPUs even if they gave them away for free, Zen is likely to be a godsend, regardless of how good it turns out to be.

AMD is moving to a strong core architecture; that alone should bring massive gains compared to their Excavator cores.  They're also focused on improving their weak on-die caches, which is another area of low-hanging fruit.  With these two changes alone it's hard to see how AMD won't dramatically improve their performance.  Will they catch Intel?  I doubt it.  Do they have to in order to survive?  No.  If they brought out an overclockable four core processor that offered 15-20% less performance than the 4690K and sold it for $50 less, they'd sell like hotcakes.

 

IIRC AMD is on record as saying Zen cores will be 40% faster than Excavator cores.  That would put them on par with Haswell cores, which would be fantastic.

None of them, that Core i3 is outdated. The FX6300 doesn't even support PCIe 3.0 and it's also the most expensive out of the 4 on that list, coming in at $97.50. Core i3 4150 @ 3.5GHz cost $110 from PCPP. If I was on a tight budget, I would rather save up and grab a Core i3 for $12.50 more. As with most gaming builds, one would want a better cpu cooler. CM 212Evo cost $30, instead of spending it on that, run stock cooler for now, so the extra money can go towards a better CPU.

Also some with a $1K budget, spend like $100 or more just on case fans. :rolleyes:

Wrong and wrong, Steamroller increased performance by around 10-15% over piledriver.
