Optimal Graphic Settings for Battlefield 4 : 1440p / 60Fps

So I was trying out Battlefield in 1440p with AMD VSR and I liked the look of the game compared to 1080p. (Auto Graphic Settings used)

My question is, What would be the optimal settings to use in order to get 60Fps gameplay without dips due to explosions.

I noticed when there is a big explosion or multi-explosions the Fps dips to the around 40 - 45Fps.

One thing to note is I play on a Tv and smooth gameplay is important to me, I'm okay with the dips but if I can get rid of the Fps dips that would be fantastic.

Let me know what you guys would recommend.

Thank you!

I use these settings from Xfactor but I play on 1080p.Use these as a guide and tweak what you want.

Turn down AA or get a better CPU or maybe a GPU with Phys-X and use DSR.

Nothing wrong with my cpu or gpu.

If I wanted to max out the game I would buy another R9 290 but that's not what I want to do.

2xMSAA or Off, 1440p Ultra details should net you 50-65fps average (depending on map/scene complexity)

I had a 290 & a 290x before this GTX 970.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Ah, ok. Just keep AA down and play at maybe medium to high settings.

Just set the game to the absolute lowest settings and if you feel the FPS is too high, you can raise the settings.

Lowest setting is low and then the game looks like crap.

I also use V-sync so frames are capped at 60.

Yeah I will have to play around with the settings and see what works best.

I just wanted to see what the LTT members would recommend.

I've tried to know what the best is (various cards over the lifespan of BF4) but now I just max it out xD. Usually some messing around gets you the best settings.

Everything on low except Textures and Mesh quality, - if you can get away with AA put 2X MSAA on - never drop below 60 at 1440p and the lower terrain details makes spotting players easier

If you had a decent CPU I would say everything max could get you constant 60fps.

I get about 90fps min with my system 1440p ultra with AA

I did a mix of Ultra / High & Medium  settings with no AA in a 64 player server and I never dipped below 60 fps with v-sync on.

(Tested also with explosions)

With V-sync off it was in the high 90 fps - 110 fps mark.

(Depending on what settings was used, Fps went in the high 130's)

Later I will test it with you're advice and see how it goes.

Nothing is wrong with the cpu.

You also have a GTX 980, which stomps on my R9 290.

It makes sense why you get that fps.

Umm, no. Your CPU is fine if you had a 280. But a 290 gets bottlenecked by it which is why your frame rate is fluctuating. I have a mate with a 2500k and a GTX 670 that gets better performance than you. 60fps on Ultra. Your min FPS will increase by a lot with a better CPU. Hopefully AMD do pick up with ZEN in CPU performance but sadly so far they have nothing to offer for high end gaming. 290 is still considered reasonably high end imo.

The only dips I ever get is when there is a explosion or multiple explosions at once and I'm right there when it happens.

Plus I can max out the game perfectly fine at 1080p.

When I had a 7990 I had zero dips with the 8350 and maxed out settings.

So again its not the cpu.

Problem is, you say that it isn't the CPU. But what you described is a CPU bottleneck. It doesn't really matter if you can run it fine at 1080p, if you are having large dips like that at 1440p it is still the CPU. If you had a better CPU you would see no dips during explosions and things. BF4 is a very well optimised game for all hardware and what it gets out of the 8350 is pretty good compared to some other games.

Gpu usage is always at 100% and dips to 99% in certain occasions.

There's no way it can be a bottleneck unless you consider that 1% a cpu bottleneck.

Are you certain that during those 40 FPS explosions your CPU usage isn't momentarily skyrocketing then coming back down? What software are you using to monitor, and does it have a functionality to display minimums, or graphs?

I don't pull up task manager to see if the cpu usage sky rockets during explosions and I have used the in game graph for BF4 that monitors the cpu and gpu and I have afterburner installed to monitor the gpu usage, clock speed, memory and temp.

There's no need for Task Manager, Afterburner graphs pretty much everything including CPU utilization. Check that, see if there was a spike.

When the fps goes from 60 to 59 or 58 there's a spike and the gpu usage drops to 99 - 98% and the Fps hasn't had any major dips yet. (As in low 40s or 50s)
