Won a $500 Gift Card of my choice at a yacht club, decided I wanted a NCIX gift card. Haven't seen anything brought up to topic yet about 980Ti vs SLI 970s. I have 970s Superclocked in SLI. Was thinking of selling one of the 970s and a 280X I had laying around and combo with the gift card to get a 980 Ti. I have the Zotac 980Ti ArcticStorm in mind. 

 

*Probably gonna throw the other extra 970 in my Xeon rig and replace the 680.

Save the $500 and wait and see what that top end AMD 390 Fury card is going to be like.  Also do you have any interest in 4K?  Maybe you could put the gift card towards a monitor or tv at some point.

I'ma let you in on a little secret, I really don't want to swap to AMD even if there's a huge performance gain. Red is a very strong color. Looking at some leak specs anyways, it seems like it will get super hot and maybe VERY power hungry. 

 

2x970 is better then 980ti

Some games don't support SLI and makes the experience even worse and only has 4GB. Whereas the 980Ti has 6GB which would allow me to play at higher resolutions.

congratulations, if you're pops is taken care of grab a 980ti.glhf. Zotac has made some really nice coolers over the last 2 years.

but even for 4k....4gb is enough

higher res eats v ram, it will only get worse too i fear. It always depends on the game though.

With DX12 you can stack VRAM, so 2 970's would actually give you 8GB. I would still go with the single 980 Ti right now. 

*sigh*

 

misunderstanding news is fun

 

no confirmation of it stacking AND I doubt anybody will let people use it otherwise SLI > Any single card and nvidia lose sales

Usually only an extra 100-150mb per resolution jump (1080p-1440p-2160p) from my experience and brief testing

from what i saw from bf4 (i don't own it) it scaled pretty well, i like it was just over a 1gb for 4k over 1080 or something. Lots of this was going around wuth the 3.5gb thing. We have games like shadow or mordor though that worries me. Honestly if we had a reason to decrease vram usage with little to no loss it wouldn't be a problem but, thats not the case atm. I also thinking of nasa type stuff, have you seen that resolution for the data they use.
