Best Budget Card?

Go to solution Solved by Alurit,

I'd get a i5 (4440/4460/4590) and a h97 or z97 board

and get a memory kit instead of one stick, you'd have 4 slots so even if you get 2 4gb dimms you can still upgrade, dual channel is double the fun

if you go AMD a crossfire compatible board is cheaper the a sli one, although the more expensive boards have better audio.

if you live in the us the 290x might be cheaper then the 970, in most of europe the 390/970 are usually cheaper then the 290x (where i live the 390x cheaper then the 290x 8gb, now find logic there). and the 390 is a better value, especially if you're going multigpu, but you'd have to have a case with good airflow.

Hello! I am currently working on a new upgrade to my current PC, which can be found here - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fw8kK8

I am looking into graphics cards, and will be purchasing them at a later date than the rest of the system, and will use the card I currently have EVGA GTX 750Ti SuperClocked in the build until I can purchase the new card(s).

I am would like to find cards (this board supports both SLI and Crossfire, not sure how though) that can give me very good gaming performance at a good price. I am looking for something that will give me better performance over my (non-SLI capable) GTX 750, but not break the bank. I have 3 PCIe x16 slots to work with, so any suggestions are welcome! :)

With AMD's new GPUs coming out now, you might wanna consider looking into something like the Fury X (if you can afford it), which seems to be very promising as of now.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

It's actually the other way around but anyways it would be the same with a 290/290x so it doesn't matter which card you get above a 280/960 it will be bottlenecked by the 8320.

Nvidia GPUs will give you better performance with that proc compare to AMD GPUs, grab a GTX 970 if you can for the best price/performance.

Budget. TELL US YOUR BUDGET for the graphics card.

I currently have a 750 Ti, but am looking for something I can do SLI or Crossfire with. The 290 might be something I will go with, and as long as I am able to run most games at about 60 FPS and medium to high settings, I am okay with a little bottle necking. My budget is about $200 USD. Maybe a little more. I plan to expand, and get a second card to match in the future.

Best you'll get is used at that price point.. if you can find a decently cooled 780 or 290 thats where I'd go at $200 (if you can find one)

For 200 $ two best cards youll find are GTX 960 2 GB version and R9 280 with 3GB, both perform about the same, it all comes down if you prefer lower power use on 960 or extra 1 GB on 280. I wouldnt buy a used R9 290, especialy if its dirt cheap, many bitcoin miners are trying to get rid of them now, cuz theyre gone under some heavy abuse.

380 2GB - 200-220USD

380 4GB - 230-250USD

Nvidia

960 2GB - 200-220USD

960 4GB - 230-240USD

Asus strix 960 sli 2GB, i know it's sli but they did include numbers for a single one as well - http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_geforce_gtx_960_strix_2_way_sli_review,17.html

I would go for the 380 at a 200 budget, and if possible i would get a hold of the last few dollars for a 4GB version.

Edit: Reading your budget post and your plans about a second one in the future, i would definitely get a 4GB version regardless of which brand. And if you're planing to play anything above 1080p i would get a 380, due to it's faster memory.
