It doesn't really matter tbh but those are the two most popular sizes.

PrimoChill LRT Advanced Tubing or MasterKleer tubing.

 

Use EK fittings if you just want cheap fittings that work and look good.

or the XSPC comps work quite well. shiny silver or black chrome.

XSPC also has updated to 45°/90° bases. LINKY

I doubt you can fit a HDD behind the back plate.

 

You can fill the res by using a tube and a funnel or simply pull the res out a little bit and leave some slack in your tubing so you can pull it out to fill it.

Most people go with 1/2 ID 3/4 OD since it gives great flow and it's pretty easy to work with. But for me, I think it's a bit too bulky, but that all depends on your style and tastes. Personally, I'd go with 3/8 ID and 5/8 OD. It still strong and allows good flow, but it's not as big as the normal 3/4OD. It's also widely available

i usually split the difference with a 7/16" x 5/8" tube..

can use a comp fitting or 1/2" barb
