Gays and lesbians could be arrested at Sochi Winter Olympics under new Russian anti-gay law

Well this sucks,

 

Australian Olympic Commitee believes that atheletes taking part in the games will be safe but the Russian government brought in an anti-gay law a few weeks ago.

 

'The law, brought into effect just weeks ago, allows police to arrest tourists or foreigners whom they suspect of being gay or lesbian.'

 

I haven't read it through because I'm quite busy and the net is making it's mission to piss me off it's primary goal

This is a law that should never be implamented in a country that says it has western values. This is something that belongs in the theocratic countrys of the Middle East.

I can see it now, when the Russians are getting their asses handed to them the police are all "Oh, the chinese and american athletes are gay, JAIL!!! Coincidentally, Russian athletes win the gold!" Yea I've noticed that, I wanted to visit Russia once apon a time and I don't think I will from now, it's something about the place that seems dark and backward but then again I've never been so I don't really know.

It's because well they're our friends and such. Not only is the Russian Gov. against gay rights, the Russian orthodox church has came out in support of these draconian laws. Not to mention the priest led a 20.000+ violent mob against Georgian gay rights activists in May. Another example of how religious views seep into government and ruin everything. What needs to happen is a boycott of the Olympic games, and to take them elsewhere. This is a travesty against humanity and I feel disgusted.

I wonder when they're going to get a grip and quit this bullshit, I would expect a 3rd world country to do crap like that but isn't Russia supposed to be a 1st world country?
