Just don't. It's a preview for a reason. I reserved my copy but won't install for a month after it's been released, going to give MS a headstart to squish any more bugs that come up after release date. :D

Windows 10 is a free upgrade only for people with a valid windows 7 or 8 licence, so thats why, if people could upgrade from 10 preview, then everyone could get windows 10 for free haha

Too bad that for you it will most likely be a 30-day trial after your PC upgrades to win 10 :/

maybe, maybe not, i used a kms activator, it wont matter anyway as i have a legit copy of windows 7

Does the word "preview" not mean anything to you? No do not use it as a daily driver

Well, it seems like people like games being released in beta status

Only for a year if I remember right.

But although it is fairly stable, it can't TOUCH the Windows 8 RP and 8.1 betas. Used both for daily drivers and had no problems at all.

Well, I'd hope Micrsoft would give you the ability to download windows 10 and just activate it with a w7/8/8.1 key rather than it needing to be updated from w7/8/8.1.

But that isnt windows 10, thats windows 10 developer preview, the OS is not out until the 29th of next month, nobody should be trying to activate the developer built as a fully working OS

Yes but your expensive hardware and your personal files don't rely on a beta game

*sigh* Really I have to explain a sarcastic comment? I was comparing a prewiev OS with buggy games...

I know, but if you have the tech preview installed as your main OS (and own w7/8/8.1) then it would be nice if you could just upgrade straight to W10 at launch.

But they are not going to be releasing updates, patches or upgrades for the developer preview - think of the dev version as a completely different OS

I understand that. But they should give you the ability to upgrade the tech preview to the full version -- it's no different than giving you the option to upgrade from w7.

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. I'm not saying that someone running the tech preview should be entitled to upgrade to w10, but if you happen to have a w7/8/8.1 license (that's not being used) then you should be able to install w10 for free straight from the tech preview without first having to downgrade to w7/8/8.1.

I still disagree with you, I think because its a preview, they are not sure if there are inherent instabilities or issue with the developer version they have given out and its not worth the time and effort to patch it and upgrade it just so a handful of people can upgrade

The developer preview was never intended to be used as anybody primary OS, it either should have been dual booted, or used on a test PC

I agree with it not being used as a primary OS, but I don't really understand the logic of not offering the ability to upgrade straight to W10 from it. The inherent instabilities shouldn't be an issue since the upgrade process will overwrite those instabilities with w10. W10 is a new OS, its not just an upgrade that's being installed directly on top of w7/8/8.1.

Hard to guarantee parts of the old OS will not end up in the new installation, AFAIK its an upgrade not a clean install so not everything is wiped (maybe I am wrong)

Also it means they dont have to implement a different activation service for the handful of people it effects,

I guess they don't want to risk people getting access to it for free somehow, or people trying to activate their W10 preview as legit etc

basically, its not a widespread enough issue for them to bother, and the people installing DP should never have expected there to be a solution anyway
