Looks like the even went to ASUS to buy their old ROG laptop cases?...

But loading Ubuntu on this thing..i mean whatre you going to do with Ubuntu thatll actually need that kind of horsepower? Maybe im just naive but someone please enlighten me.

large gaming/powerful laptops have their place and are infinitely more portable than a mini itx PC with monitor - easier to carry, battery power etc etc

Theoretically yes, but for LAN you'd just carry desktop stuff (though I've never been to one).

For travelling, for about the last 6 months for me it's been a brix, all-in-one mouse and keyboard and the hotel's TV. Accessories needed are HDMI cable and a HDMI to VGA adapter (though I've yet to need the adapter, and sometimes I pack an extra mouse if I actually need serious work done).

Why would you carry desktop stuff? Ive been to tons of LANs with my m18x,  and its great for taking over to friends houses and when at home I use it docked and use the screen as a second display, even now it still runs most games at 1080p 60 on high/ultra

And if travelling it easily fits into a backpack/messenger, and I can use it on a train/plane, cafe, anywhere really, and it has HDMI in so I can connect other devices to it as a portable monitor (like a DSLR or Android device)

I am hopefully moving to something smaller but its useage will be identical, my m18x is heavy but ive carried it around a busy london for a weekend just fine

I don't game, so I'm going off what I know other people do.

And l've never understood laptops on a plane, since I use a plane to tune out from work (it's my safe haven, with free booze!) so since I've bought an iPad (2011 I think) I've always used that for casual gaming/movie watching/reading. I can even rig it up as a useable wifi second monitor in conjunction with the hotel TV (though not going to lie, video in would be amazing) :P

I've just never understood the laptop form factor, and always hated using it - school, work, travel, home, wherever. Once the multi-touch tablet came along, it was finally a form factor that made sense to me.

I can edit my photos in lightroom and my videos in premier on the go, use it as a monitor for my DSLR, play proper video games everywhere I go etc

I have an iPad and I do game on it, but it doenst do enough to be my main gadget when I travel
