I've decided to get this katana for... unboxings. Are there any other good katanas in that price range? Also are there any stores that sell them near New Jersey? Another thing, I'm destroyed my old jika tabi and because they were so comfortable I want to get another one but I can't remember where I got them from. So now I'm looking to buy something like this. Honestly I just like to wear my gorilla suit with these so I'm a quiet gorilla wielding a carbon steel katana.

Off Topic: Didn't a Gorilla wielding Katana get shot in like Idaho a few months ago?

On topic : I have no idea. I saw Katana and I was intrigued and then wanted to ask that question.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

At that price range you'll be getting just a steel blade machined to look like a katana. Still good for chopping things, though. Your average bastard sword chops just as well as the most genuine katana out there.

Well I'm not looking for anything authentic. Just a high quality $50 katana

Honestly, any "katana" you buy for $50 is going to be junk and will destroy itself on the first swing (unless it makes a break for freedom halfway through). Good luck to you.

yeah, no one in their right mind would look for a genuine katana in the hopes of using it as a sword. You want a bladed weapon, you get a sword made of good steel, if it looks like a katana, that's totally fine. Katanas were valued for the amount of work that went into them, their effectiveness as weapons is vastly exaggerated by Hollywood. I'd rather use a bokken.

Well "Shinichi" it's the only sword I can afford and I am well aware it's a very cheap sword. I know for a fact it won't break easily but you can tell it's fake from the coating on the shard end.

High carbon steel is just as good for swords as the tamahagane real katanas are made from. The only difference is the way that it's made. Nothing more.

watch The Sacred Blacksmith and cringe mightily.

I'm more concerned about a lack of a full tang blade than anything else. I think a lot of injuries are caused on replica blades as the join between the blade and grip is so weak and that will be a point of failure.

That's the real worry. You want a sword where the metal is in effect the entire sword.

shouldn't be a problem. They're just swords. In the land where you need a license for everything except owning a weapon, swords are not a problem. It's Japan where katana are forbidden from carriage and use.

I can now afford something better and I'm looking into these two katanas made from Damascus steel. Which one should I get, they are both pretty similar and I can't decide. @KemoKa @SonoDanshi

a ninja to for 59. its listed as "Battle Ready" meaning its built to be used for cutting practice and not a wall hanger

and a full length one here...

edit: as for the reliability of "battle ready" weapons from that website?

Skallagrim uses battle ready weapons on his channel and puts them through the stress test and for the most part they've held up real good

Then I'll probably go for the first one. But do you think those are a good pair of jika tabiI?

Avoid those cheap knockoffs, they're only good for decorative purposes.

Here's my Wakizashi.

The first time you try to chop something with that, the shaft inside the handle will break and the blade will end up ... well ... it's hard to predict where it'll end up, but you'll most likely get seriously injured in the process.
