Which processor should I pick?

The processors are the G3258 from Intel, X4 740 and an FX 4300 from AMD. Which one should I pick?

Get the pentium and overclock it as far as you can. Then when you have more money and need an upgrade you have a much better upgrade path

1. My budget is $300. I only need the processor, motherboard and RAM. I don't need a GPU, HDD, SSD, PSU and a Chassis because I'm reusing my old one.

 

2. I will do very light photo editing and vector editing using Photoshop and Illustrator. I will mainly use this system as a gaming system, and I normally play titles such as Battlefield 4, Metro Redux, Cities: Skyline. I am also planning to play GTA 5 if the processor can handle it. (I have a GTX 480, and I'm not the type of gamer who likes all details to be at Ultra, I'm more of a medium-high settings-if possible type of guy)

 

3. I already have most of the parts, GPU, HDD, SSD, PSU, and Chassis.

FX unless you are gonna upgrade later then go Pentium.

 

FX can upgrade to but then you can only upgrade to FX-83XX and they need a MSI 970 Gaming mobo as minimum.

based on your budget it doesn't sound like you are looking for an upgrade path, and based on your use-case I would not go with a Pentium. per core performance is no longer the only factor in modern Games, especially when the consoles are utilizing 6 or 7 slower cores.

I don't have any intentions to upgrade really, well actually I do but only the hard drives and SSDs. The other bits, GPU, CPU, RAM, etc? Nope.

If you can somehow squeeze out a true Intel Core i5 CPU, then this is the way to go.

 

An Intel Core i5 will blow all of the other processors you listed out of the water, without question.

Then you can do better. In 300$ you can fit a core i5 with a cheap motherboard and 8gb of ram.

Best deal there is and you have some money left over, it will way outperform anything else you've listed. If you'd want you can later throw in a Xeon or i7 for a performance boost down the road; but the i5 will last you a good long while.
