Hand Made Keyboard

waggythegeek

So, @BurgerBum is building a custom keyboard. I did a little research into how it would be done, but I've not found much. Anybody want to give me a generic step by step?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

depends on how you want to go about it really. There are a few ways some more expensive then others. I think the cheapest is to salvage parts from a old used keyboard and then hand wire a matrix to a micro controller. That way you would end up with switches, keycaps, and a plate for less then you would likely buy them new for. The other way is to buy a custom pcb, switches, universal plate or have one cut for you, buy or make a case for it,buy keycaps.

I can also point to to things about custom designing plates and stuff like that.

I'm going to be building one as well. I had it all planned out a while ago, but haven't thought about it in a while as I still don't have the money.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)
