What could I do with this desk?

So at my dad's office they where getting rid of this desk and my dad wanted to know if I wanted it? 

I said yes and he is gonna bring it home today or tomorrow I'm broke so a free desk is a FREE DESK!! I was thinking of roughing up the surface and spray painting it black. and trying to pop off the filing cabinets since I don't need those. and I would get some more leg room. Does anyone know if this would work?

Just get the cabinets off and maybe sand and paint the top and you have a perfectly normal table/desk :)

the problem is is that it is not real wood

IF you sandpaper that you will have to reapply the laminate...

The cabinets could be supplying some rigidity to it as well, Might go really wobbly without them.
