My computer is pretty quiet actually. Typically 800rpm for each fan. You can definitely hear the fans if you're up close but meh!

Don't mind the mounting holes.

Tell me you at least have dust filters then-because that's another problem with having loads of fans.

Therefore you failed your build.

Your computer should be so quiet, you don't know if it is on or off by the sound, up close. That should be in everyone goals for experience builder.

I've almost got my dual s370 rig that quiet (found my fast and quiet 20GB Spinpoint HDD) however the CPU fans are a noticeable (barely) since the motherboard can't control their voltage and until I get a silent but active cooler for my geforce 6200 (passive atm-but it overheats even with new thermal paste) I have to use my loud Deepcool CPU fan (cheap and nasty-low air flow high noise) and my high airflow ceramica fan (most of the noise is airflow) to keep it cool. Which is why I made this thread asking which fan I should buy.

I'm taking that "Failed your build" comment quite offensive because I worked extremely hard on my PC. So I'll pretend I didn't see it.

I honestly don't care that much. I live alone, Fan and/or air conditioner is usually going, headphones on, music playing.

but most fans are in those typical size if they change to bigger size they will have to bear the possible lost as most people will reuse their fans, if they can't, they won't buy the case. unless every single company making cases change together and they all manufacture bigger size fan all together. I know there are alrd some bigger fans for side intake but way too less, the one company that start first gonna lose money and no one wants to lose money, they are still company that try to make money instead of benefiting the community.

True, but we did the jump from 80mm to 92mm, and 92mm to 120mm this exact way.

Noctua just announced at computex a 200mm fan

let's hope everybody starts to keep up with noctua footstep, and slowly work it up then. i personally don't mind it to be a bit bigger for better performance rather then focusing on looks. Pretty sure all sizes has it own beauty too, rule of life that applies everywhere.

but then again, diverse marketing is not as good as concentrate one cause large fans only for large cases and smaller cases users will not purchase it but 120mm and 140mm applies to both type of cases, it is kind of a optimum size i would say. imagine when itx cases have whole front panel as 1 single fan lol. That would be cool as hell for me (im kinda weird) and ugly as hell for most.

<snip>

I agree on most points, but not everything. There are people who use more drives.

I chose the Define R5 for my NAS because of the sound damping and the fact that it did have just enough drive bays and SSD trays for my use.

My PC (CM Storm Trooper case) has 4 SSDs too, but I made a custom mount for those rather than using the default cage.

What would be nice is if case manufacturers would give some options inside the same case, like different drive bays that you can

order perhaps. If the modular case they showed at CompuTex is anything to go by, Cooler Master seems to have gotten the hint.

You're absolutely right about including decent fans though. The very first thing I did when I took the R5 out of the box, was to remove the stock fans and install the largest BeQuiet fans (SW2 on their rubber mount) that would fit. I don't even test case fans because I just know they'll be crap. I am building a sizeable collection of completely unused fans now.

That just reminds me that a universal mounting system for fans might be a nice thing too. I had to drill out the holes in the front of the R5 a bit because the custom screws are so small that the plastic plugs that BeQuiet uses wouldn't go through them.

But the one thing that absolutely gets on my nerves is that all manufacturers seem to add their extra fan mounts in such a way that you'll have more exhaust than intake if you use them all, so you'll always have negative pressure.
