Depending on the SSD you choose, it'll come with cloning software which you can use to safely transfer everything from your current SSD to your new SSD. Everything on the hard drive should remain untouched and functionally the same.

You should do a clean install, not clone your OS

you can run into a ton of problems from cloning, and some stuff you wont even notice until months later that something is wrong

Just unplug all drives from your system, plug in ONLY the new SSD, install windows normally, then plug in your HDD and everything will work fine

What do you mean you lost everything? You sure you didn't accidentally format it?

i just remember that i unplugged my hdd to do some wire management and when i plugged it back in all the programs on that hdd showed up as a white icon. Also if i remember correctly i think that the hdd wasnt showing up in my computer.

The only time that should happen is if the OS is on one drive and programs are on another and you reinstalled Windows. The registry gets reset so the programs no longer work.

Oh that would make a lot of sense. My os is on a ssd and all my other programs are on a hdd. Is there any way to make the registry not reset?
