This afternoon I forgot my iPhone 6 plus was in my pocket and I got in a hot tub. (I know, I'm an idiot)

It immediately powered off on its own. I dried the outside off and haven't touched it since. I was planning on removing the sim card tonight.

I have read online and a bunch of people have said use silica gel or rice. The problem is I have neither. I have no idea why but my mom has no rice in the house.

Are there any alternatives or should I drive to walmart and buy rice.

if it powered off on its own its screwed. if you want to try to still save it. just go buy rice and stick the phone in the bag for several hours.

put it on a fan and crank the fan. will do more than any rice will.

what? how will this work on a phone thats virually sealed?  it will dry the outside nicely but not the inside.

It might be a goner, but it's worth it to at least try. Dried rice is cheap. Don't attempt to turn it on until it's completely dry (wait a day or 3 with it completely covered in dry rice.

I don't do signatures.

im pretty sure your mom wont mind spending like 10 dollars to save a 500 dollar phone

but make sure not to power it on. to make sure i would turn it on after like 4 days or a week

You have encountered this before? I was kinda assuming I was somewhat safe because I feel like the phone recognized there was water and automatically powered down to save itself.

oh man, I've done this before, now I'm always cautious and paranoid when I go into pools or hot tubs. I was able to salvage my iPhone but the screen worked funny and it wasn't really that great. I ended up buying a new one a month later. What I did was I put mine over the heater, I didn't know about the rice bag technique back than, and this dude from the pool ( I think he was a technician or something) told me to put it on the heater.

yeah but it was my sister's phone. she dropped it into the water tubs at the manicure place thingies. plopped it into a dry rice bag, waiting a week and voila it worked.

I swear there is no rice in my house. Is there any alternative to rice.

not really. rice is dried to a near zero moisture and as such will absorb moisture quite well. just go buy some. if you have to wait till tomorrow, you could put it in the toaster at 110-120f. thought i dont advise external heat.

This is so wrong. The rice absorbs moisture in places where it would take forever to evaporate from a fan.

if you dry it out over a whole week (just to make sure) in rice hopefully the parts havnt corroded

lol okay but water got between my glass and my display, and was able to dry it out just fine in about 5 minutes with a blow dryer. 5 minutes seems a fuckton shorter than a week. but do what you want, was just recommending something I did myself that at least for my device, worked in 5(ish) minutes.

It only takes a couple hours, you give it a week to ensure that it's 100% dried out and that there's no static charge on any of the components :P

So it's been about 5 days since I placed my phone in the rice bag. I am happy to say that I am typing this message from that very iPhone. After I charged it there appears to be no noticable damage whatsoever. Display is fine, speakers are fine, it is not slow or unresponsive. It is all backed up too.

The only thing I have noticed is that it seems to be charging very slowely, but I think that is in my head. But you never know, maybe the battery was slightely damaged.

Is there any chance that any excess chlorine from inside could be slowely degrading my phone? If so, could my phone just suddenly stop working in a month? I'm still nervous.
