What does jailbreaking

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

Is jailbreaking as easy as installing CM on Android or a bit complicated and installing all the mods is easy too, right?

Jailbreaking isn't too hard you run the piece of software and follow the instructions and press the buttons to place it into the correct mode. Once you have it jailbroken and have Cydia you can search for mods you like and install them, most of them will require you to relaunch the springboard once installed.

I've never tried CM so I wouldn't know the process exactly.

So if I were to buy an iPhone, I wouldn't like the communism that happens on iOS and I prefer some freedom of colors and personalization that Android gives you.

I wanted to know what pros and cons does jailbreaking an iPhone gives a user?

Depends on the jailbreak that gets put out or you get since sometimes it makes a bit unstable if you add too many mods. You can always revert back to stock so it's pretty simple just take a hour or so if you have a shit ton of apps like I did.

Pros: customization and new features when you want them. Also you can unjailbreak

Cons: if you are not careful you can install poorly coded enhancements that drain battery and slow down the phone and apple won't help you. Also you don't get to upgrade to new firmwares without losing your jailbreak and all the jailbreak exclusive features you installed.

If you want an android experience, you should probably buy android. I think jailbreaking is a must for mobile Apple products but you have to be a little careful and practice basic ethics since you can hack pretty much every app once you jailbreak.

-snip-

Pros: you get a bit more customization.. You can install some stuff.. It gives you almost as much freedom as Android does without a root or whatever.

Con: can be unstable, as it is not an official thing. But it can be reverted quite easily.

Easiest thing you'll ever do. Pangu is literally, press Jailbreak in the application, open an app within the phone that the software injects and you're done. Not difficult at all, if you want to revert it, just restore you phone and restore it from a backup within iTunes. So, make sure you back your phone up prior.

Heyyo,

There's two different types of jailbreak btw... tethered and untethered.

Tethered is usually the easiest to accomplish and usually releases faster... but if your battery runs dead or you reboot the phone? You loose your jailbreak. In rare occasions in the past with iOS 6 tethered jailbreaks? It fails to boot when using a tethered jailbreak and had to plug it into my PC and force a reboot via Redsn0w before the phone would work again (iPhone 4s btw).

Untethered is the jailbreak you always want to install. This means that even on power loss or rebooting your device? The jailbreak will work fine once booted up. No need to worry about losing your jailbreak on boot or the rare instance where you can't reboot.

So since you're new to jailbreaking? Be sure that it's an untethered jailbreak if it's available. Tethered can be a real pain at times.

Pangu jailbreak as LoneRangerS mentioned says it's untethered so that would be a safer bet. I've not used it so I can't speak from experience though. :P
