So my school symphonic band goes on a Germany trip every 4 years and I leave Saturday for the trip.

Is there anything I should know before I go or anything that I should go and see?

We fly into Salzburg and then a couple of days later we go to Bietigheim.

edit--- I didn't think Salzburg was in germany. I did pass my geography class last year. Other wise I would have no clue.

Don't mention the war.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

  • Get some Euros. Don't the American turist that expects every country to accept Dollars

Salzburg is in Austria, not Germany. Make sure to get into the right country.

Don't expect everyone to speak perfect English. They don't expect you to speak perfect German either.

Go see the architecture. Salzburg has some really beautiful gothic buildings including the Salzburger Dom.

Well I take German so I know some landmarks and such. You definitely want to go to Berlin if possible. If you go to Checkpoint Charlie take your passport and they will stamp it. This is a spot when the Berlin Wall was up for people to cross back and forth. Berlin Wall in general. Other than that I am drawing a blank with other things. Google things to see in Germany for others.

This is kind of weird for the timing because my sister leaves in a few days to go on the school Germany trip.

If you get to the Czech Republic there are a lot of streets lined up either with prostitutes, hypies, or pick-pocketers.

Bietigheim is not that much fun, try to make a few trips to Stuttgart (the closest big city, used to live there).

If you like cars you can visit the porsche museum there, if you like hardware hacking you can visit the shack (the local hackerspace), also spend one night there and get wasted, there are many good bars (some tend to be a bit expensive though).

EDIT: Stuttgart is a realistic travel distance, not like Berlin or the Czech Republic....

Isn't Karlsruhe the closest City?

It still doesn't beat the American tourist, that asked how he could drive to Australia.

After a lengthy explanation as to why that would be impossible, he came to the conclusion that he meant Austria.

OP, if you are over 16 get shitfaced on beer.

Yes it is, but Karlsruhe is not really a "big city". They have a big university and lots of culture, but there's not this "big city feeling", although if you aren't into that Karlsruhe is great too.

EDIT: Also, public transportation is your friend in Germany. The EFA ("Elektronische Fahrplan Auskunft" ~ Electronic timetable information) of the area you visit can be found here.
