slay english

Even if you max games completely out? I also plan on upgrading to 1440p in the future.

If you are planning to upgrade in the future then it should be fine.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

If you are going to upgrade to a 1440p 144Hz monitor then I would say the 980 Ti is perfect.

Depends on if your cpu is going to bottleneck the 980 Ti. It would still be overkill but the cpu will hold it back.

Depends on the game and settings. When I benchmarked Tomb Raider with one Titan X at 1080p I got 246 avg fps at max settings.

Edit can't remember the exact amount but it was way over 200fps

Also would a 2700k @4.6 bottleneck this card?

A slight bit if you where prepared to upgrade to skylake when that was released then that would be good.

something people also forget is VR. When it arrives (hopefully) in Q1 2016, you won't be having fun with a mid-range 1080p card. a 980ti will probably be the minimum you want, or the Radeon Furyan if it pans out.

Well if you are going to do that and upgrade your display in the future then everything should be fine.

980 ti is not overkill at all, if you need the extra power you can always buy another for SLI

In terms of power, the 980 ti is a BEAST

But....wait and see if AMD comes out with something a little bit better for a little less.....
