I noticed that people use HDD and SSD most of the time on their PCs, but how come hybrid hard drives aren't that popular?  Are they not that reliable?

They are just not that much better than regular HDD's.

Hybrid drives only have a couple gigabytes of SSD so they can only do so much in speeding up programs, they are also quite expensive for the storage amount they have

an SSD + Mechanical hard drive is much better, your OS will boot much faster off an SSD, you can store games on it for faster loading times, and you can buy cheap large drives for mass storage

the only time a hybrid drive makes sense is in a single bay laptop

They are just not that much better than regular HDD's.

This.

They are good for basic users... the 8GB of SSD flash gets used quickly when game files are stored on the SSHD, a few BF4 maps in a row will fill it, and then Windows will boot slowly the next boot, cos the SSD portion is full... this is not an issue if all your doing is booting windows, browsing and running rudimentary lightweight apps.

So it's not the best for 'PC gamers', esp when you could just buy a decent 7200RPM drive, they are getting ever so slightly faster and faster...

However, consoles/laptops benefit GREATLY from the SSD portion of the drive, I put a 500GB SSHD into my PS3 & have one in my mums i5 lappy (boots in 12s or so)

Console OS+Menu's and selections are snappier, games load a little faster (GT5+GT6 were MUCH MUCH MUCH improved in loading times), and SSHD's are primed for consoles IMO, storage space and a small speed boost.

But most people would just rather a dedicated SSD+a cheap 1-2TB drive these days.... not a combination (unless there is NO budget and you need the best of both worlds)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I have to wonder, what made hybrid drives increased the performance of the PS3?  Wouldn't it be pretty much be the same as playing on a gaming PC?

PS3 didn't increase in performance as per the core/memory or anything, just a faster way to access the data (HDD)

PS3 loading times were shaved down, install times were shaved down,.. games did not RUN faster, they just LOAD faster.

SSHD's have 8GB of SSD Cache.
