Twitch bans Adults Only games in the United States.

wyattzx

Wait wait wait, so Twitch have officially killed off the GTA:SA speedrunning scene now through Twitch.. Meaning Trilogy runs will now never happen, ruining marathons around this type of thing, also general speedrunners who run Any% for GTA:SA can't stream it anymore?

It can still be streamed, so long as it's the M-rated version (which happens to be the version on Steam). You know this forum loves to sensationalize everything. Always look at the official source.

Why? Violent or sexually suggestive video games have not been found to cause significant or negative behavioural changes in anyone (in fact, as with all hobbies regardless of content, all video games have proven to provide positive mental health change), this is just ridiculous. Sort of like how on American TV they are afraid of saying shit or fuck lol..

^This, just as books are books, TV is just TV and Movies are just Movies. It does not affect people, children don't turn into rapist because they saw a sex scene in GTA.

Oh boy, don't try to argue that RIDICULOUS NONSENSE. Else the hell bent pseudo-psychologists will come after you about "decreasing morality".

The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.

If it all 18+ games then WTF ?! Worst idea ever !

If its all the "erotic" games, for example every single Hentai game then fine by me.

Is Witcher 3 included, i wonder.

It's games rated "AO" (Adults Only) by the ESRB in the US. The Witcher 3 is rated "M" (Mature). Hardly any games are actually affected, since all consoles have a ban on AO games.

Do games even get an AO rating anymore, when nearly every game gets rated M for money (larger audience = more profit. Seems simple enough)?

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

I'm really not fond of slippery slope arguments, but in this case it seems to be fitting. Twitch has been sliding bigtime with their repressive dress code, scattered content enforcement, I know there's more I can't remember offhand. Muting music, etc

Heyyo,

Ahhhh the good old US censorship motto, "horrific deplorable violence is okay, as long as nobody is naked or says any dirty words".

Can we PLEASE, move out of the stoneage?

I've played through San Andreas at least three times, NOTHING in it is more extreme than ANYTHING in GTA V. this is stupid.

Censorship is wrong, in just about every way. If you have children, do what you are supposed to do as a parent, don't lie to them, don't sugar coat things, EXPLAIN THEM.

As a parent, your job is to guide your children through life, until they can make their own way. Lying to them, and protecting them from things, handicaps them. You're not supposed to be JUST their friend, or JUST their authority figure, you're supposed to be a guide. Offering nothing more than truth, and context. The things which an individual needs to form an opinion.

Well with San Andreas there was the hot coffee mod. That's why it was AO.

The odd part is... GTA V? In first person mode and you pick up a prostitute? It's the same shit lol. Humping with clothes on. :P

ahh common, the reasoning its perfectly understandable but can't you make an exception for SA, what makes it AO isn't on by default, and its remove from pretty much every version expect the ps2 and xbox originals, all version are rated M now

http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=33275&Title=Grand%20Theft%20Auto%3A%20San%20Andreas&searchkeyword=grand%20theft%20auto

edit: yeah the ps2, xbox and original pc disc are still rated AO, but not the steam version which is what almost everyone has now, also the AO rating is only valid for the original launch batch, post launch disc that don't have hot coffee are M

http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=10562&Title=Grand%20Theft%20Auto%3A%20San%20Andreas&searchkeyword=grand%20theft%20auto

The thing with the v1.1 of GTA San Andreas? It was as simple as replacing the .exe file with a v1.0 to be able to use the Hot Coffee mod again... so that was quite the flaw anyways. All the required animations and models were still left in the game. :P

Before you start getting all overly dramatic, take a look at the list of AO games, remove games with an M-rated version, and see what you have left. Only call this a big deal after you do that.

Read the actual blog. San Andreas is allowed, so long as you have the version without the hot coffee mod (which they obviously can't check anyway).

That's the crux of the slippery slope argument. Each step isn't a big deal. Maybe AO games aren't a big deal, but what's the next step?

Well, for this to be a slope the next step would have to M-rated games, and that's obviously not going to happen. Most AO games are basically porn, and Twitch isn't a porn site, so...

Shouldn't you be attacking console makers for not allowing AO games on their hardware?

@The_MarD said what I was going to say. Even with that mod, there's FAR more graphic stuff in GTA V. The torture scene for instance? (which was epic good fun.)

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

The slope isn't about game ratings, it never was, it's about twitch whitewashing itself and slowly sanitizing its content through many different avenues.

Also, lol consoles. I haven't cared about them since the GameCube days. And again, it's not about game ratings.

We've been over this before: Trevor as a character centered entirely about killing people for no reason. He's the only character who has a rampage mode. There's no redeeming qualities whatsoever about him, yet he's ok and Hatred isn't. That's just hypocrisy, people indulge in senseless killing sprees all the time and made GTA the most popular franchise on videogaming yet Hatred is usually not ok with the same people: bullshit.

It's just another one on the long list of games being singled out like Postal, Soldier of Fortune, etc.

I don't even play as Trevor I'm usually either online playing the guy in my profile pic or Michael or Franklin. Probably Franklin because I like his driving ability lol. But I could see why someone could love Trevor if they enjoyed a psycho engaging in senseless killing. Also, is Trevor your only point that GTA is just as bad as Hatred? As I mentioned who I prefer to play as, pretty much everything about the game is totally OPTIONAL. Hatred forces you to kill for no reason.

Now, you know what you can expect from these barbarians. They are a race of rabid BASTARDS that will fight us tooth and nail! But they don't know what they're up against. Cyrodiil, is CIVILIZATION! Cyrodiil, is ORDER! Cyrodiil is POWER! And out here, WE. ARE. CYRODIIL.

That's what happens when a multi-billion dollar corporation buys you, my friend. A lot of it sucks, but this particular thing was bound to happen at some point no matter what.

Effort. What about the majority of runners that speedrun using the retail version?, reading up on it, it seems fine. It's still rather odd though, the whole matter that is.

If they use 1.0, they're screwed/have to pretend that they have a patched version. Otherwise, they're fine.

Assuming no one replied...

Does this include Canada? I still want my violent games.

The ESRB covers most of North America, so yes, this change in policy also applies to Canada.

OT:  I say good for Twitch, since it's nice to clean up their service.  However, most of the games that are AO are pretty much interactive pornography, sans Hatred and San Andreas.  Then there's San Andreas, which although might be deserving of an exception, might be difficult to enforce, since there will be that one guy who will stream Hot Coffee and seal the deal for everyone else.

Then again, how are they going to enforce this anyway?  I could say I could be streaming, say, CS:GO, then turn around and play an AO game.

If you read the actual blog instead of the article, you'll see that it says that M-rated versions of AO games are allowed. San Andreas without Hot Coffee is fair game.

It's there, but you pretty much have to design the game with the sole purpose of obtaining it.  The ESRB has more info on it once you get the time.

But what if someone would happen to install Hot Coffee into the M-rated variant of SA?  Then what?

First thing that came to mind when I read the title.
