You won't be running games at max settings, but you should be able to play most games at medium-low settings.

It all depends on what games you want to play.

CPU: AMD 3950x Mobo: MSI B550 RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU: Asus 3080 Strix PSU: Superflower Leadex 3 720w Case: BeQuiet 500DX

Storage: 2TB SSD + 4TB HDD Audio: SMSL 793ii -> HiFiman HE-400 + Mission MS-50 Speakers

It is more GPU bound than CPU at this price point. But Also don't get a high end GPU with an i3.

Edit: What is your budget? And where are you located?

you  could play most games at 1080p high deatails with no aa and af it won't do yere good in the future and new game and the games with insane graphics like metro and crysis.

I was just about to suggest getting an FX 6300 (newer generation than the FX 6100), in games like Crysis 3, Far Cry 3 and Battlefield 3 it will make a considerable difference compared to the i3, you can also overclock it and when the next-gen console ports start rolling out it will make an even bigger difference.

No a HD 7770 will run at Medium 1080P. Otherwise he will get around 25-35FPS 80-90% of the time on any new game.

True. The extra Cores would help in gaming but if he is stuck with a HD 7770 then it wouldn't make much of a difference. I would say get a FX 4100 and a HD 7790/7850.

If you are looking to upgrade, I would go with an AMD APU so you can put it into crossfire with your GPU.

Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Desktops-A10-6800K-Radeon-AD680KWOHLBOX/dp/B00CPLGGXM/ref=sr_sp-btf_title_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1374275114&sr=1-5&keywords=AMD+APU

Hybrid-crossfire isn't working on RIchland APUs "yet" according to AMD, and it's generally not very reliable so I would not recommend it.

FX-6300 , FX-4XXX , i3 3XXX

Radeon HD 7870 ( if you can get the XT )

Cheap MSI , Giganyte Or asus motherboard doesn't really matter what but make sure you get a 970Chipset or better

Drive : Some 500GB -1 Tb drive or if you can / want an SSD ( Crucial M4 or Samsung 840 )

Ram : Try to get 8 GB ( 2×4GB) if you really can't get 4 gb ( 2×2 GB)

Case : Fractal desgin Core 1000 is an AWESOME case for the price!

Power supply : Corsair 430 V2 is an awesome power supply for the price.

Your GPU is fine for medium-low settings. Possibly get a FX-6300 because you will need extra cores if your gonna play multi-player games.

Yes, good enough for gaming.. It's a good budget specs although you might want to use AMDs processor instead of core i3, they're not really good at medium-lower end gaming computer

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor is the most recommended one for a budget gaming PC. You can use the new APU processor although I'm not really understand how things work with that. The prices are vary though, I got $85 in my country but $110 in newegg, maybe you should check the price there

wow, people love dissing the i3.

anyways mate, do you already have this system? if so just get a decent graphics card and upgrade the cpu when you have the money. these guys all take the situation as though you wanted to buy the i3 and not have it already because in theory the amd processor would be better, but in reality they perform about the same till u go up to the i5 price range.

The i3 is perfect for gaming, I would get a HD 7850 or 7870 then you are set.  Everyone tells you get get a new cpu but the one you have will play ALL games today on high settings, you just need a better gpu. You can get a 7850 for $170-200 and your dune you don't need to spend anymore money than that.

One thing I dont get is why everyone tells you to spend lots of money on expensive cpu and gpu. Everyone thinks you are made of money and you must have the the most expense because it is the best. The simple fact is that for gaming a duel core will do the job and do it well, and a mid lvl gpu will play all games on high. You dont need a $300 cpu and a $500 gpu to play games, game are not that demanding even today's games. IF I can play Crysis 1,2 and 3 on a Pentium G 860 then you dont need a  4,6, or 8 core to do the same job. IF you want them thats fine just dont let anyone tell you that you MUST have them.
