I'm going to be building a budget server and was wondering whether I should get a ssd (would just be a cheap sandisk pulse 128gb ssd)?

if it's just for the OS don't see why not, if you're going to be writing lots of better you'd probably be better off with normal drive so it lasts longer.

For most budget servers you don't need much io performance. You probably won't notice the difference using it, and when using the CLI almost anything is fast enough. Database servers are a good example of something that needs lots of io performance. If its the same price then get the ssd as they are more reliable, but normally i use a old 160gb hdd i have laying around for my servers and back it up as it is fast enough. For something like a fileserver there isn't much code needed to copy files over the network and that code is normally copied onto the ram.

I use a 256GB SSD for cache and boot in my server.
