GT740m Overclock xD

Hi all,

Yes reading the title I'm looking for any possibility of overclocking the GT740M - i know that it's a mobile gpu which isn't great and its not recommended but I'd just like to squeeze a bit more power from it [emoji14]

GT740M is coupled with i7 4770k and three 120mm cooler master fans with plenty of ventilation. Can anyone recommend any settings or have done anything with the card themselves? Fyi this isn't my gaming pc! But I do play battlefield 3/gta on it

He means how the hell do you get a 4770k into a laptop without it melting the entire thing

Ohh! I'm a bit obsessed with cooling tbh! I have the laptop raised with clean airflow - 3 120mm fans and an small extractor on the stock vent. I've got pretty stable temperatures but gaming the cpu and gpu peaks at about 85 degrees

And I have the laptop running on AC only (no battery connected) so no battery heat build up

I think you mean the 4770mq not the 4770k.

 

Firstly don't bother overclocking on a laptop. 85 degrees is really hot anyway and overclocking will add at least 10 degrees to that and significantly reduce your battery life.

Even if I don't have the battery connected? I only insert the battery when I'm travelling but other than that I use the laptop as a desktop setup (close laptop lid and use two monitors)

Is there a way I could add more dedicated video memory to the gpu? Or does the gpu automatically take more ram for intensive games?

There are no laptops with a 4770k. There is one by Origin PC (iirc) with a 4790k, but that's the only time I've ever seen a desktop CPU in a laptop.

Not overclocked the 740m, but done this in a 525m for more than 2 years.

 

GPU max temp: 72ºC

CPU max temp: 86ºC

That's not a bad Overclock at all!

I tried to OC a Laptop CPU once and my Nvidia chip semi melted so bad all white things became pink! Also I only OCed one thing and it was CPU if you OC both you doom it for sure!!! If you want OC go buy a bigger PC.

 

Also the sound went first and never ever came back...

Please don't overclock a laptop, the risk to reward is extremely low.
