Bypass a HOST file? [Help!]

For some time I used HOST file adblock and chrome's adblock. Until I cared about this awesome comunity. The host prevents any connection for the entire computer (blocks ads from IM clients, and all browsers) it displays an "connection failed" picture instead (when using explorer), but the rest of the page is intact. Something like this: 

This is not the problem! The real problem is that I need this kind of adblock back, but I also want to support Linus! I'm very used to pause adblock in chrome before clicking Linus's new Youtube video. But this HOST file overwrites Chrome's adblock...and there is nothing I can do to have IE and everything else but Chrome controlled by HOSTS.

If you install Adblock Plus, you can simply disable it on individual pages.

Nope, you don't get it! Adblock plus for chrome blocks the ads already blocked by HOSTS. If I pause it/whitelist a website, it doesn't show the ads. I need chrome's connection bypass the dns verification loaded from the hosts file.

Thn don't use a host file adblocker. The way the host file works, there is no way, as far as I know, to override it on some sites but not others. To remove it completely, remove the entire contents of the HOST file which is somewhere in the windows folder (system32?).

This is what I did... We really need an standalone adblock for the entire computer, wich we can control from a tray icon...

Correct.

 

When something wants to know the IP address of a host, it checks the HOSTS file to see if it is contained there, if it isn't it queries a DNS server. HOSTS can not be overridden unless you know the IP address of where you want to reach (which isn't actually overriding it).
