Cheapest LGA 1150 CPU?

What is the cheapest LGA 1150 CPU to use on a Z87 board? I know that the G3258 is rather cheap but I might require a BIOS update to use it on a spare Z87 board that I have and that would require some work to update the BIOS.

Spoiler

i5 4670k, GTX 970, 12GB 1600, 120GB SSD, 240GB SDD, 1TB HDD, CM Storm Quickfire TK, G502, VG248QE, ATH M40x, Fractal R4

Spoiler

i5 4278U, Intel Iris Graphics, 8GB 1600, 128GB SSD, 2560x1600 IPS display, Mid-2014 Model

Spoiler

All the parts are here, just need to get customized cords to connect the motherboard to the front panel.

It doesn't need a bios update. The G3258 is Haswell and not Haswell-R.

Just update the BIOS. It says you sometimes need to update to use whatever CPU, but a lot of the time that is simply not true

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

Is that so? That I did not know, I thought it was Haswell R.

Released Q2, 2014. It's Haswell-R.

Whether it's Haswell-R has to do with the updated power delivery and not the release date. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7963/the-intel-haswell-refresh-review-core-i7-4790-i5-4690-and-i3-4360-tested/2

G3258 is Haswell Refresh.

No, it isn't. An easy indication of this is that the G3258 works with every 1150 board without an update. Read the linked anandtech article above.

Haswell cpus also use PCG 2013C as opposed to PCG 2013D found on Refresh/DevilsCanyon.

Please do explain this example then: http://us.msi.com/support/mb/H81MP33_V2.html#support-cpu

Requires BIOS version A4 or higher. A0, A2 or A3 will not work.

G3258 is Haswell Refresh, and do require newer versions of BIOS on older boards.

Devils Canyon and Haswell-R aren't the same thing. Read the whole article..

The article doesn't even state anything about power delivery. If anything it's proving the point of release date differentiating them, and that the only noticeable change is clock speed.

A0, A2, and A3 work. The A4 bios update is for improved oc'ing.

Note the bolded.

Citation needed. They wouldn't list A4 as the minimum for no reason.

Boards are loaded with the latest BIOS that is available when they are made. If it was made after Haswell-R came out, it will come preloaded with a Haswell-R compatible BIOS, as B85 boards are still in production.
