We don't even know if it will be named 380X, much less do we know the performance right now.

If you are considering the '380X', you might as well wait

At this point I would wait. The release of new AMD products could also affect the price of the Nvidia 900 series in your favour.

I am not gonna spread rumors, so my answer to that question would be "Maybe. Maybe not."

R9 380 OEM will be a rebranded r9 285. I only expect r9 390 and 390x to beat gtx 980, with the new GCN 1.3 and HBM memory.

380x should be the full tonga (285x), but we know nothing, it can even be a r9 290 rebranded. In case it's the full tonga, performance should be around gtx 780.

AMD promised a lot with the 300 series, but as time has passed, it has become less revolutionary. Only top gpu will receive all the exiting new features. The rest will be pretty much rebrands

Apparently the 370X is going to be a full tonga (which we haven't seen yet), and 380x is going to be a refined 290x, so not exactly a rebrand. Rumors have stated that the 380x will be able to clock higher, which if true could bring it closer to a 980, despite being a 2 year old architecture.

I'd wait until the 300 series come out, and if they are rebadges of the 200 (more the 7000) series, then get a GTX 980.

yeah because of the price drops

aquatuning.ch for everything except ek stuff which you can get from ekwb.com they will send it pretty cheap to switzerland and pchc.ch has the ek stuff aswell but its not cheap

the prices of the stuff on ekwb.com will go down as soon as you select your country

mNRaPrd.png

this block would cost 8 euros in shipping

on pchc.ch this block would cost you 84 fr with shipping

so you guys think the "380x" will out perform the gtx 980

If we see the last gen's history repeat itself, it will be the 380x trading blows with the 970's performance while undercutting its price, thus leading to an Nvidia price cut.

The 280x, when it released, was competitive with the 770 performance-wise. I believe the 280x was initially introduced at nearly 100 bucks cheaper than the going rate for 770's at the time though, which resulted in Nvidia promptly dropping their prices.

If history repeats itself, my wild ass guess is the 380x performance would compete with the 970 while trying to undercut its price, while the 390x would take aim at the 980 and 980ti, with its performance perhaps sitting somewhere in between those two cards. The 380x would be a tier below the 980.

Take all this with a grain of salt, as it's just me thinking about the last gen and theorizing on the next gen. Nobody outside of AMD really knows what the hell with happen.

It's worth keeping in mind that you may be waiting awhile after the GPU is released for waterblocks etc. I'd imagine it takes some time to get those produced.

That said I would wait and see.
