@Minibois

Add ".png" to it.

Oh yeah, it's one of those links where they have an extra space at the end :P

@Minibois

Add ".png" to it.

How easy is this supposed to be, because the only way I can get that answer with my tiny brain is:

x=y*cos48+a*cos30

x=(y+a)*cos48*cos30

x=20*cos48*cos30=11.589

but I feel like I am seriously overthinking this one.

This doesn't work.

And is this how automatic text color is supposed to work? Because my text now has a white background and it's really annoying.

If the triangles meet in the each other in the middle of X than is X =15.099

Are you sure you gave us all information? It's not an easy problem...

Yeah well I suck at math past highschool.

No it's not how it's supposed to look.

Yes the triangles do meet at the center of X , how did you came up with 15.099?

a + y = 20

cos(30) *  a + cos(48) * y = x

cos(30) * a = x/2

solve all the 3 equations (my calculator does that for me ;) )

I was just going to ask Nyxathid if the triangles meet at the center as I couldn't come up with a third equation otherwise, but you beat me to it :lol:

Yes both triangles do meet at the center :P

if you could be more thorough that'd be nice

Erm.. that is the max that i can do because i dont have the problem in front of me , this is a problem that the teacher asked if we could solve it

How did you came up with those results ? Again sorry .. but I really have issues with trig.

You don't actually have to find them. You can use simulatenous equations to turn three equations into one with only one variable.

a + y = 20

a*cos30 + y*cos48 = x

a*cos30 = x/2

a = 20 - y

(20-y)*cos30 = x/2

20*cos30 - y*cos30 = x/2

-y*cos30 = (x/2) - (20*cos30)

y = ((x/2) - (20*cos30))/(-cos30)

(20 - (((x/2) - (20*cos30))/(-cos30)))*cos30 + (((x/2) - (20*cos30))/(-cos30))*cos48 = x

Now you only have one variable and I've probably made it way more complicated than necessary and it might also have some errors, but in my defence it's past midnight here.   :P

Edit: According to my calculator, this is equal to 15.099... which is what Stefan1024 also got, so it might actually be correct  :lol:

Ok, and now using vectors, sorry I'm not explaining this, but I'm from spain so trying to explain this in english could make me sick xD Sorry! Just I put (0,0) In the center, and get every other vector, from coordinates, here I use (I dont know the name in english):

http://www.vitutor.org/geo/vec/images/43.gif

Also the result for the X is the same as indicated ;)

Hope it works for you!

PD: I used 20, but is 20M so X depends also from M ==> X = 15,099M

I'm from Spain so English is not my main language but I'm trying to make my best not writing any typo.
