K|NG|P|N is an awesome GPU, but I personally like the G1 (just my opinion). See Linus' latest video here:

Watched it on Vessel last week, I like G1 as well but I still think that the Classy just looks better.

I like the Asus GOLD 20th Anniversary Edition and Matrix, the EVGA K|NGP|N ACX 2.0+ and Classified, and Zotac AMP! Extreme Edition, but those are the Kings of 980s, so, very expensive.

But if you're trying to spend less but with a really good cooling solution, you should look for a EVGA ACX 2.0, Asus STRIX, MSI Gaming, and Gigabyte Windforce models of those cards.

I have the Classified 980 (two of them) and I wish I saved 100 bucks and went Gigabyte or MSI.  WIth that said the Kingpin is nearly the same until you put it under water.

What was wrong with it? Was it overprices, or did it have cooling or non-money related issues like that?

I've had the ASUS STRIX, Gigabyte G1 Gaming, and the MSI Gaming. My personal favorite was the MSI GTX 970 Gaming http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-980-GAMING-4G/dp/B00OD38516/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1431557556&sr=1-1&keywords=msi+980. It was the quietest and coolest and performed great.

Cooler Master HAF XB EVO, ASUS Maximus VII Hero, i7-4790K @ 4.5GHz, Corsair H100i, EVGA GTX 980Ti SC, Corsair Vengeance Pro 2X8GB 1866Mhz CL9, 2X Crucial M500 960GB, EVGA SuperNOVA 1050 GS, ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q w/ nVidia 3D Vision 2

I just thought they were overpriced for a minor speed improvement.

I agree with this.  The only issue I had was the MSI Gaming didn't have a backplate so I paid 40 bucks on V1Tech to get one.  My MSI card also has coil whine when folding, my Gigabyte G1 card didn't.

I had SLI MSI 980's, neither had coil whine. Lucky me I guess.
