Thoughts on asus sli certified 970

Cactu

soo pretty....

and should work well since air is only being blocked by other fans not a PCB

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

There's nothing particularly special about it. It just looks really good.

Oh but there is, it is a blower but there are intakes on the front and back

I like it a lot, for sli builds it's amazing and looks great.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

It's awesome looking. I think there should be more 'aftermarket' blower design coolers.

I agree, that's why my 970 is reference

I saw an ad for this on this forum and thought the double sided find were cool

What are your thoughts?

I personally love the look and design. Looks like it makes sli a lot better

Seems cool, but personally I would stick with the stock cooler if i was going for a blower design. This pcb is half length, which will lead to problems of its own, like oddly placed power plugs, and less space for stuff on the pcb...

Hmm, interesting.

Having the blower allow it to get air from the top and bottom could really help with temps in SLI.

wonder if they have a 980 version as I'm thinking of going SLI with my 980 down the road and that could be great for a top card if that fan/cooler design works.

It reminds me of this little beastie, except better:

Image_04S.jpg

Which despite the poor reputation of blower style coolers was actually quiet and performed very well:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5691/the-retail-radeon-hd-7870-review-his-7870-iceq-turbo-powercolor-pcs-hd7870

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2012/07/24/his-radeon-7870-iceq-2gb-review/1

Being that the 7870 GHz and the GTX 970 have nearly identical TDPs (150 watts and 148 watts respectively) I think we can expect this new 970 cooler design to work very well. Then we've got Linus weighing in with a 250 watt 780Ti with a blower style cooler: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAKyh-qqQCw Then we've got this little test: http://techbuyersguru.com/coolercomparo.php

Basically I'm saying that people should avoid mindlessly jumping onto the anti-blower hype train.

1. Overclock until the magic smoke comes out. 2. Modify until broken. 3. Fix and repeat.

I kind of want this card, but G-SYNC is so much more expensive than Freesync to set up end to end @ 1440p. R9 290X's have been poking down to ~$210 after rebate and the ASUS MG279Q is going for $599 while the 970's sit around $300 with the equivalent Acer 1440p IPS demanding $799 monies.

Yes there seems to be an issue where Freesync tops out at 90hz, but until some reviews hit I'm still optimistic. Even if it does only support 35hz-90hz I'm going to be happy anyways. Give me the choice to have my graphics card dump its heat out the back too and I'll be quite content.
