This will knock you on the floor. You could even add a 128GB SSD, and then get windows on g2a

aren't the g2a windows keys for a limited time only?

I love when people ask for help building an AMD system and then some fanboy put up an Intel system.

It's not being fanboy, it's accepting the fact that AMD CPUs are subpar for their price ranges. Though you're correct, people should have requested the use case of this build.

What are you going to be doing with this build? Gaming, editing, streaming, virtual machines, etc.?

Stronger than any AMD build.

Well, first off, you didn't fulfill any of OPs requests, and second of all, though the FX series may be old, the 8350s performance is nearly the same as the 4440, worse in some games, better in others. Not to mention the 290x and 970 perform very equally too, even out-performing the 970 in higher resolutions.

Though I wouldn't really recommend this build, since the 8350 is reaching the end of it's life, but it still does fulfill OPs requests.

Well just as an example.  What about something with an APU.  Especially if the person is on a budget.  If they aren't going to be gaming there is some good value to be had with something like an APU.

My fiance's brother just built a rig with that FX-8350 and it performs admirably.

The FX-8350 performs the same or better than the i5-4440 in well optimized, multi threaded applications. In the real world, this isn't true, and often times, the i5-4440 can nearly double the performance that the FX-8350 can achieve due to the much stronger per core performance.

The i5-4440 is the low end i5, but it still outperforms any available FX chip in all but multi threaded productivity applications. For a gamer, the i5-4440 is the better choice. For productivity, as long as you know your use cases, the FX-8320 could be the better option.

Well just as an example.  What about something with an APU.  Especially if the person is on a budget.  If they aren't going to be gaming there is some good value to be had with something like an APU.

For an $800 gaming machine, the general recommendation is a much stronger dedicated GPU than an APU.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Right for a gaming rig...dedicated GPU.  "If they AREN'T going to be gaming" perhaps the APU is the way to go.

Do you have any room to stretch the budget (e.g. within $30-50), or is this strictly $800 or less? Also, do you require peripherals or no?

If you cut out Windows 7, you can include an i5-4690k and Z97 motherboard, but this is perfectly fine for a gaming machine otherwise. Everything, before any rebates, is below $800. There are a few discount codes, though, but actual cost is below $800.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.
