For People that 'enjoy' 30 FPS. 60FPS vs 30FPS <Look and Feel>

kenjigreat

I know there are quite a few of these threads every week.

As someone who games on PC and Console . Honestly I don't really care what FPS it is as long as it is 30+ and consistent , only in Multi-player FPS or Fighting Games I think 60 FPS is NEEDED.

Look Vs Feel

This is where I think a lot of priorities are misplaced. Someone can enjoy the look of 30FPS , if it looks more natural to them , but the feel and responsiveness is different. That is the reason many gamers including myself like Action Games to be 60FPS.

For Turned Based Strategy/City-builders/Sims/Low Interaction games , 30FPS is enough although if you may enjoy the 60FPS look. Since most actions are deliberate and there is no need for fast inputs.

Here is the thing , PC Gamers often think someone is trolling when they say they like 30FPS , It might be fanboyism or personal preference . Lets assume that they really legitimately only enjoy 30FPS , the question I have is , is it possible to the game look like its running 30FPS but its actually running 60FPS and has the responsiveness or are the two mutually exclusive?

I play Forza Horizon 2 on Xbox One a lot. It runs at 1080p/30FPS. Do you know how many times I gave a damn? Zero.

FPS isn't just a number, it means so much more. But a lot of gamers, especially PC gamers, take 60FPS far off into "If it's not 60FPS, it's not Kosher."

The only reason 30FPS "feels" unresponsive is due to 30 frames per second where 60 is double showing more frames making it seem responsive when really it is just smooth. Input lag would have to be a performance issue. 30FPS sucks dongers.

Depends on the game , I'm not picky unless its a Competitive FPS.

Because Games like Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Need the 'Smoothness'?

Depends on the game. If you can legitimately say you have a better experience Playing that game at 144Hz then good for you.

For Games that need low-input lag , 60 FPS needed.

It's addictive, when you go 60 fps it's hard to go back to 30.... Well in some games I prefer 30 fps, but most games I'd go with 60 when possible.

We should demand 60FPS Movies then because most games force you to watch 30FPS Cutscenes.

Ahhaha

I do get the whole responsiveness thing, but it feels more natural to me.

However in FPS games, 60fps is a must.

We see things at an infinite frame rate, that is to say there is no defined frame rate. I want things to be as smooth as possible. 30FPS is not natural at all - nothing in real life feels like 30FPS so I have no idea where your argument comes from.

I actually think we are the fastest adapters of change since Gaming is a relatively young industry. If someone has gamed for 10 years its likely hes went through 2+ Console generations or upgraded/replaced his computer once.

Well, even in non-fast-paced games, I will get annoyed by 30 FPS. Once you play a lot of games in 60 coming back to 30 is almost instantly recognizable.

Like Silent Hill Homecoming, the first minute I played it I could tell it's capped at 30, even though I didn't know before that it was.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 at 30Hz? Does that bother you? If you haven't played the game go play it , one of the best turned based strategy games of all time.

Why is more fps ever bad? You don't experience life in 30 fps, nor in 60 fps. You experience life continuously. If you want a more lifelike game then you then want more fps. Can you see the difference between 30 and 60 fps?

For me, I enjoy my games at 50+ fps. When I play 30 fps titles on console it is by no means bad, but I would DEFINETLY NOT complain if it had the same visual effects but at 60 fps or more.

Yes I know about the whole dress fiasco, but that doesn't change how we as humans see things. There is no defined frame rate that we see at. It is effectively infinite. The whole "30FPS is more natural" argument is pure nonsense. It is not more natural.

Constant 30FPS is... fine... I guess

Homecoming annoyed the fuck out of me because I'm getting solid 60 in GTA 5 at 1080p high-ultra, and this game which I actually love the storyline and gameplay dyanmics in, with compatibly horrible graphics, dips down to 20 FPS... constantly. With a GTX 970.

Not really relevant...

30 Hz and 60 hz are completely distinguishable by most of people. More fps only means more fluid gameplay. Do you need 60 fps to enjoy a game? No. But I think your strategy games would still look better in 60 fps. My opinion, not yours
