Should have gotten a Vapor-X....

Guest
Go to solution Solved by xAcid9,

My R9 280X Toxic does have a backplate, but I'm not too sure about R9 290/290X versions

There's no 290/290x Toxic, the Vapor-X does have backplate but not the Tri-X.

So I have a R9 290 Tri-X, it works perfectly and all, good temps, decently overclockable...

But I still regret not getting the Vapor-X instead of the Tri-X.

Sure, it only has a little bit better cooling, but it has a backplate and it looks neater overall imo.

sigh....

Does anybody have a Vapor-X? How is it?

I regret not getting a 280x with reference PCB

I also regret paying 200 fucking dollars for my K70 RGB

buying an APU

buying corsair vengeance RAM (had to take off the heat spreader on one stick to get my Hyper T4 on)

buying a $250 case for a $750 system

the list goes on.... But whatever, I'm still happy. Lol

anyways, the Vapor X does look better, but imo the back plate looks cheesy. Besides, a bit of spray paint and bam you've got a near identical card. Haha

It's just a backplate you could just buy a aftermarket one to put on like @Lolzious linked.

Yup, but also the slightly better cooling and it is more quiet.

You probably wouldn't notice the difference unless they were literally side by side and you had a decibel meter.

Well your motherboard might help mine leaves it at 30% fan speed and increases with temps.

I never liked the color of the Vapor or Tri. I hope with the 300 series AMD cards will start looking more sleek and nice like the Nvidia cards. (Example, windforce designs)

CPU: G3258 @ 4GHz GPU: Gigabyte GTX 960 OC RAM: 8GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 SSD: Corsair LS 120GB Case: Antec GX500 Mouse: Logitech G402 Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Headphones: Shure SRH440 Microphone: That Zalman Zm-Mic1 that everyone recommends but noone uses

Remember when the R9 280 was the HD 7950? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

I wanted the 290/290x Vapor-X so bad but it's always out of stock. Saw a TwinFrozr went on sale for $300, grabbed it in an instant albeit inferior cooling.

I was going to get one at one point (In fact, I sort of regret not getting it, thanks for reminding me) because apparently it has great VRM cooling

EDIT: I REALLY regret not getting that build now. It had an SSD too :(
