$1000 Gaming PC - Need Help!

Athix_

Hi!

I'm building a gaming PC And have a budget Of ~$1000. I am looking for build that will handle all the new-gen games on high/max settings. I would love to achieve 60 fps on Ultra in Witcher 3 or GTA V. I was thinking of the i7 4790k and the EVGA FTW 2.0 GTX 970. I potentially would do SLI in the future. I have a 1080p monitor but I am also considering buying a 120/144hz later on. Thanks!

If the main thing for this pc is gaming: get the I5 4690K. You don't need the hyper treading for gaming.

Yes, go with an i5 4690k for just gaming. If you wanted to go for something more adept at video/photo editing, etc, you could go for a CPU with hyperthreading.

If you wanted more SSD space, it'd push the build around $20 over budget, but it's worth considering.

Here's my take. 4790K, SLI capable motherboard, GTX 970, SLI capable PSU.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($326.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($113.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card  ($329.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($34.99 @ Micro Center)
Total: $987.93

Downside is no CPU cooler and SSD. But stock cooler is fine if you're not overclocking and 7200RPM isn't too bad.

EDIT:

Thanks for all responses. The main purpose of this PC will be gaming, also some work in Photoshop and Lightroom. But won't I need a better CPU for SLI in the future? And the new-gen games, won't they utilize hyperthreading? I am looking for a build that will last for 4-5 years, so a better CPU seemed reasonable for me. I assume, that I am wrong so please correct me. :)

Would it be a good idea to buy 16 GB  RAM rather than having in mind all the upcoming new-gen games? You suggested 3 types of the GTX 970 and now I am confused. ^^ I did my research and many claim that the Gigabyte G1 is the winner. What do you think?
