How much RAM does the normal Windows 8.1 version support, cuz i know that e.g. the normal Win7 verion only supports up to 8GB

Actually, 7 Home Premium supported up to 16GB. And the limit is 128GB in Windows 8 for 64-bit systems.

You might want to read that again. This link clearly states that Core has 128GB max, and 512 for Pro and Enterprise.

Not entirely correct. The Home Basic version of Windows 7 only supported 8GB of RAM. Most people would have purchased the Home Premium version - which is also the version that would come with most laptops and desktops:

As you can see with Windows 8, in a 64-bit environment, there is now "lower" limit. All versions support 512GB (Except regular Windows 8, which supports 128GB max).

Windows 7 has more gradual limits.
