gtx 980, if you have endless budget and might want to upgrade later a titan might not be bad, but currently moslty overkill

GTX 980 if you really do the intensive games, otherwise the 970 or R9 290(X) should serve you well.

But since you have stated no budget @Zackslay3r , GTX Titan X ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

/jk

That is too overkill :P

Fuck no GTX 960.

GTX 970 for 1080p (300-400 dollar)

GTX 980 for 144p (500-600 dollar)

or go for AMD: r9 290x, but then I would recommend waiting for their r9 3xx series to come out!

Don't even consider the titan x.

Next time give more info like, how many monitors do you use (and what monitors), also your budget and CPU

If you want all on ultra, uber mods plus 2-3-4k res moded go for r9 290x 8gb. Then there is n980, and just for

simple 1080 ultra r280x, r9 290, n960, n970 are just ok. (will play tons of games on ultra)

If you have free hand on the budget ofc you can go SLI - crossF or dual gpu. But right now I would pick an r9

290x 4/8gb over n970 just because of being capable using all 4GB.. I like adding some mods in any game.

The blood on to your heart start pumping faster when you notice me.

But is ok.

Ultra 1080p on 960? Not. A. Chance.

Unless we're talking about DOTA/CS:GO like games.  B)

WTF are you talking about http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-960,4038-4.html.. see on your own. its a budget gpu that can run almost all games on ultra 1080p. and because he didnt give as a budget, it doesnt mean that we will tell him to put 3 titan X's. we must give him the card with the lowest price

Maybe in 1-2 year old titles. Good luck playing GTA 5 on ultra with 960. Or any upcoming big game (e.g. Witcher 3, Arkham Knight).

as i said again, the op doesnt give as enough info. anyways, if the 970 makes you feel more comfortable as a suggestion, thats your opinion.

Wow...this thread is spinning out of control....OP, just go with quad Titans or quad 290xs and you'll be fine (since you have unlimited funds... :P ) At this, you should have no problems with Ultra Uber levels in games like Purple Palace and other graphically challenging titles.....good luck with whatever you choose and please post dat receipt after the purchase :o

Back to reality...970/290 would be your best bet for 1080p..whatever team your partial too....

970 is just way way way way better for only 100 bucks more. if you buy a 960 right now you'll regret not going for the 970 or 980 in a few weeks/months.

GL playing assassins creed unity for example on your 960.

In all seriousness, the 280X or 290 are good options from AMD. Depends on the best deal you can find. There's a 280X in the classifieds for $150 right now. Good deal IMO. 290 is obviously faster, but is obviously a bit more. The 960 is the best option from nVidia right now for a purely 1080P budget. The 970 isn't meant for just 1080P. It's a 1440P card and we all know it. It's overkill for 1080P. If you have the money, great. It will last much longer and can allow 1440P in the future. But 2GB VRAM isn't as much a bottleneck as others think. It really isn't. In 2 or 3 years, certainly may be a (slight) bit. Most semi-enthusiasts will upgrade around then anyway. Also, as someone with a 2GB VRAM card, an R7 260X, it does 1080P well already. Usually 45+ FPS on high/max settings for most games.
