If you're not gaming, you should swap the CPU with an i5 4460 or something and add some RAM probably.

Your motherboard should be able to take the i5

That's true since hyperthreading and stuff, but I don't know the specific model numbers for those.

And I would not be sure where he could find  those :P

Spend any money left other on a new psu.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

Don't "improve" on it. Your components offer a very limited upgrade path. What you should do is save up and buy a good computer with great base so that you can upgrade comfortably in the future.

I think that if he changes the Mobo cpu and ram out now, then when he has more money he can get a new graphics card.

Skylake is around the corner. Once the time arrives, he should sell his computer and invest in a new machine from scratch. There is no point to him buying anything now. Especially not with what he has at this current moment.

That makes it a very good time to buy parts for a cheap build because the shops will be selling of there stocks of old processors and mobo's cheaply so they can get in the Skylake.

This is what I recommend he upgrades.

Very rarely, if ever, does Intel cut the prices of their previous CPU's. Motherboards, maybe, depending on location that is.

In fact, why would he opt to buy something outdated? I would never be comfortable with buying something "last-gen".

Intel may not directly cut the prices but shops will to get rid of the old stuff so they can bring in the new stuff.
