970 or 290x

So, i was initially  going to purchase the 970 anyway just to experience Nvidia and because it's a cracking card. However, the prices of the 290x have been slashed. I'm not really keen on the 290x as it's a hot card... Overclockers UK have the Asus R9 290x ROG Matrix for £250, which is tempting. 

 

Is the Matrix still a hot and loud card? It's either that or the Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970... I'm really wanting the G1, but the R9 290x would leave me a little bit of money for an SSD?

 

Cool and quiet is what i'm more interested in, rather than a little performance increase (and also value). 

 

Which one? Need to purchase today as there is a deal on both cards.

I think the GTX 970 would fit you more, GIGABYTE G1 Gaming is a great GPU, nice cooler and have good overclocking capability.

The matrix use the same cooler as dcu so it still hot but I'm not sure how loud. Lel

If there's no 290x with better cooling at similar problem price point, just grab the 970.

There isn't really a normal price... always fluctuating. It was on sale for $329 right after I bought mine.
