Any way to update bios without a CPU?

ALELOCOOOO
Go to solution Solved by TDP_Equinox,

Go to a local shop and test another cpu in the board; It's possible yours is DOA.
Which would suck :(

Hi, this is my situation: i have a rampage v extreme and a 5960x.

When i put the 5960x on the mobo, the mobo shows error 00.

Could this be a BIOS problem? According to the asus webpage, the mobo needs to have a specific BIOS version.

The thing is, i dont have another CPU to update.

Any solutions?

Thanks.

Flash your bios.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

If you have an asus mobo you can, otherwise go to a local small shop, and ask them to lend you a hand (or CPU in this case) :)

its called bios flashback.

I did follow the steps on the video, however:

The rampage v extreme doesnt have a white usb port, i used a random one.

I hold the rog button for a few seocnds, but nothing happens.

Any ideas?

I renamed the file with the renamer utility.

The X99 RAMPAGE V EXTREME motherboard supported the 5960X from First release BIOS 0503

So its not the BIOS!

Are you sure you have a socket 2011-v3 X99 board?

Ok, i did update the BIOS with flashback.

The 5960x is still not being recognized.

So far, ive tested it with 4 different Mobos: x99 deluxe (two of them), x99-a and rampage v extreme. None of them can see it.

Its brand new, boxed.

Well if you have tried it with so many motherboards, the issue must be...

PSU / cable is broken on the CPU 8 pin

CPU is DOA

Where did you get the CPU from?

Nah, its not the PSU, tried with two different PSUs, the one that im using right now, and a Sentey 750w.

I bought it on eBay. The box was factory sealed.

if you have tested it on multiple boards it's possible the CPU could be faulty.

when you say the CPU isn't being seen, do you mean the system will not post?

if it's not the posting then check to ensure its not your RAm or other PCI/PCI express devices connected.

Yea, its the CPU.

I already contacted Intel to RMA it.

I don't know how this happened.

But yea, having a dead 5960x feels terrible.

Edit: when i say that the cpu is not seen, i mean that the motherboards shows error 00 (no cpu).

Mark topic as solved until it comes back from RMA and we can return troubleshooting if need be.
