Posted April 23, 2015 Some games, like God of War 3, officially support up to 720p and 1080i. Some games can look noticeably blurrier when it's upscaled to 1080p (Bioshock is a great example) so I'll probably just set it to 720p or 1080i. Which one should I use though? I have a 1080p HDTV btw Previously Trogdor8freebird 5800x | Asus x570 Pro Wifi (barely enough for 64GB apparently given it's 2133 and still crashes sometimes) | 64GB DDR4 | 3070 Ti 8GB | Love that whole weeb shit
 Posted April 23, 2015 Does it get blurry using 1080i? It should - it's the same pixel count. Just interlaced, instead of progressive. Most games run at something like 900x600(something like that) and then get blown up to fit the set resolution if the game "supports" it. A little correction, most games run at 1280x720 native with a few being lower. GoW3 is one of those games. Anyway though, if it's 720p native like GoW3, would it be best to stick with 720p resolution and not 1080i? Posted April 23, 2015 really? on the xbox 360 it handles scaling well. Thinks always looked way better in 1080I then 720p. generally even upscaled running at 1080P should look equal or better to 720P.
 On the 360, I don't think I've ever seen anything really blurry at 1080p. Then again IIRC all my games on 360 officially support it (on the back of the box). PS3 games on the other hand are different usually D: Previously Trogdor8freebird 5800x | Asus x570 Pro Wifi (barely enough for 64GB apparently given it's 2133 and still crashes sometimes) | 64GB DDR4 | 3070 Ti 8GB | Love that whole weeb shit
 Posted April 24, 2015 It's not 1080i,it's still a progressive in basically all hdtv applications I'm playing gran turismo 5 right now, it has a native 720p mode and a 1080p mode with 1280x1080 res A couple of the HD remaster hit 1080p native, ICO, GOW, FFX Intel i5-3570K/ Gigabyte GTX 1080/ Asus PA248Q/ Sony MDR-7506/MSI Z77A-G45/ NHD-14/Samsung 840 EVO 256GB+ Seagate Barracuda 3TB/ 16GB HyperX Blue 1600MHZ/ 750w PSU/ Corsiar Carbide 500R
 It's 720p and 1080i. Is what you're saying though that I can choose 1080i and it'll still be just 720p on my HDTV? Posted April 24, 2015 The downside to 1080i is that it's 30 fps instead of 60. Essentially every other frame is being handled at a time, then they're deinterlaced when both frames have been received when you've halved the framerate. Given how 1080p 60fps isn't a thing with modern consoles, let alone the PS3 being limited to 30 fps is not much of a reason to go for lower res. Posted April 25, 2015 Author So I googled it, it's 720 with 2x Msaa, there is no 1080i though, no games on ps3 are interlaced. MLAA btw, it was intended to use 2x MSAA but they instead use a well optimized MLAA in the full game. Also, it's able to be 480p or 1080i natively if you choose those options. It's why it says those resolutions on the back of the box. It just uses the scaler for 1080p. My question is - is it potentially beneficial for me to use 1080i in games that officially support 1080i resolution, or is it pretty much useless to use interlaced on my HDTV? Okay, the short answer is it's not a good idea to use interlaced resolutions on a digital TV. I didn't even think a HDTV would accept it, but yeah you'd probably end up with artifacts from the deinterlacing Intel i5-3570K/ Gigabyte GTX 1080/ Asus PA248Q/ Sony MDR-7506/MSI Z77A-G45/ NHD-14/Samsung 840 EVO 256GB+ Seagate Barracuda 3TB/ 16GB HyperX Blue 1600MHZ/ 750w PSU/ Corsiar Carbide 500R
 Also this is not necessarily true, ps3 480 is always downscaled, and back of the box resolutions aren't "native" they are output resolutions, it isn't confirmation of native res Gta IV was 640p on ps3 but it says 720 on the back Intel i5-3570K/ Gigabyte GTX 1080/ Asus PA248Q/ Sony MDR-7506/MSI Z77A-G45/ NHD-14/Samsung 840 EVO 256GB+ Seagate Barracuda 3TB/ 16GB HyperX Blue 1600MHZ/ 750w PSU/ Corsiar Carbide 500R
