£3000 and a bit PC BUILD!

Grapes

Yeah I was contemplating the 4790k, but chose the latter because it was newer. Which one has the best overclocking capabilities?

pretty much the same, sure its newer but if you are mostly gaming, having the extra cores is really no benefit, a 4790k should cope with everything

BUT - since you have the budget there is nothing wrong with your choice, go for it if you have the cash to splash

I agree, but keep in mind that he would like to run 3x 1440p, which would mean that he needs dual gpu (or more) setups. Maybe X99 isn't that bad.

But once again, your point is totally valid

This too, since he has the budget, why not

4790K comes at 4.0ghz base and 4.4 boost.

5930K comes at 3.5 ghz and 3.7 boost.

At stock, the 4790K wins in single threaded applications.

Overclocked, the 4790k may hit 4.6/4.7 ghz, with 5930k hitting 4.4 -ish.

The 5930k would still destroy the 4790k in multi threaded applications (Rendering ...)

Cool, so the 5930k is essentially future proof and can handle triple 1440p monitors?

Don't know about the triple 1440p (No one benchmarks this config :/), but futureproof : Depends on where game development goes.

Do devs start using more cores or do they remain single threaded... That is the question
