A few days ago I read this topic when I was waiting for my Asus 780 DC2 to get here and was going to start saying how amazing the DC2 is and how its soooooooo much better etc. etc. etc.  Then I read your post and figured you might be right, people are just saying whatever there fav brand is, so I thought Id wait to reply here until after I had gotten my 780.

Honestly, I was a bit surprised from the moment I put it in ... surprised as in disappointed =(.  Now I will be the first person to go on and on about how amazing Asus DC2 coolers are, they always seem to be the coolest cards and the most silent.  Coming from a 670 DC2 which is whisper quite, I was very very disappointed with the 780 DC2.  Cause it def. does not live up to the 670 DC2, thats for sure.  The Asus 780 DC2 acoustics was closer to my old reference 570, then it was to any aftermarket cooler.  The temps were still pretty good, I never went over 68degrees when gaming on ultra, but I just could NOT get over how loud the card was.  After spending 700$ on it (670 on card 30 on warranty), it was just too loud for me.  I dont know if I got a defective one or what, but I am RMA refunding it back since it is in my first week of having the card.

I still plan on going with an Asus ROG mobo and sound card, but after this 780 DC2, I dunno about graphics card. Its really turned me off from them which is upsetting because I was the biggest Asus fan boy ever lol, and now not so much.  Maybe I am too much of a silence freak but when the fans went over 40-50% speed, it just sounded like a jet was taking off in my PC.  I am considering the MSI TF 780 now, if I do get that one then ill see how much more loud / quite it is compared to the DC2 and then I guess Ill have a better idea of how good / bad the 780 DC2 is.

I have the same card (780 DC2), had a 680 Lightning before... I didn't check the sound levels with a decibel meter or anything, but in my system they sound roughly the same at equal fan speeds... Actually now that I think about it, the DC2 is quieter at higher rpms, I'm talking 60% and up

What?

this was one of the funniest comments I've read to date.

EVGA's ACX cards got the best results in reviews. There's still the MSI Lightning missing, but for now, ACX has revealed to be the best about temperatures and noise (and the performance is stellar, even surpassing the Titan in some benchmarks).

Where? On the techpower reviews the TF and the DCU II did better both in noise and temps.

I've heard so aswell first...

...but then i read this.

So I wonder what the lightning series will bring to the table, hopefully a totally new design... if not might aswell get the gaming series card, since I'm not big on overclocking the GPU anyway.

I'm assuming the lightning will be basically the same as the DC2, enhanced VRM design with a non reference PCB.

Honestly any non-reference 780 will be perfectly fine, get the one you like most and go from there. If you plan on watercooling sometime get one that has a reference PCB, but a non-reference cooler, so atleast until you watercool you'll have good cooling.

the twin frozr and windforce ofc.then dcu . evga is new at this...meh

what do you mean evga in new at this? evga is one of the oldest and one of the best discrete gpu makers, if not the best.

windforce in my mind looks great design-wise (not to look at, but for cooling), but I don't trust Gigabyte wigh GPUs as far as I can spit, seeing I've had 2 Gigabyte GPUs and both had problems with coolers (one windforce 2 fan stopped working, another reference 4850 melted the plastic over the vrm), with asus I've had good experiences as far as MOBOs and GPUs go (mind you the last ASUS peripheral I bought almost 3 years ago), but horrible experience with their tablet (transformer prime), and lately I hear a lot of people complaining over their mobos. So I begin to wonder if their legendary quality is gone.

I can recommend the twin frozr design to anyone who, like me doesn't mind the noise when spinning over 55% (I use headphones when I play).

Main reason I started this thread is because of the GPU Boost 2.0 -  meaning the better cooling, the better performance for the first time in its full meaning.

EVGA has also recently release the classified http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=03G-P4-3788-KR

Custom PCB, two 8 pin power connectors and 14 power phases was all I got from the official unboxing yesterday on their ustream channel.

Looks nice but seems to be pretty rare. :|

It's cherrypicked, like the lightning series over gaming series from MSI,

Direct CU II, and I use TWIN FROZR.

I actually RMA refunded my DC2 because it was running way to loud when the fans went above 40% speed, I am thinking of getting the TF instead since I hear it is supposed to be the most silent 780.  In regards to its acoustics, would you recommend the TF?
