Best 780 cooler

I couldn't find a thread like this, and I'm interested to find out.

So, which design od the 780 coolers is the best? twin frzr, direct cu 2, windforce, acx... ?

I imagine this would be very important since the 780 implements the GPU Boost 2.

Intel 4770k@4.6GHz, ASUS ROG Maximus VI Hero, Kingston HyperX Beast 2x8GB 2400MHz CL11, Gigabyte GTX 1070 Gaming, Kingston HyperX 3k 240GB - RAID0 (2x120Gb), 2xWD 1TB (Blue and Green), Corsair H100i, Corsair AX860, CoolerMaster HAF X, ASUS STRIX Tactic pro, Logitech G400S, HyperX Cloud II, Logitech X530, Acer Predator X34.

I've heard only good things about the ACX Cooler. Can't speak for the others, tho.

Twin Frozr usually gets loud for the high end cards, so does direct cu2. They both seem to reach their limit on the bigger cards. Don't know if there where tweaks made to them for the 780

The windforce cooler seems to be a new version specially made for 780, maybe it's better then old versions. At Computex they said it's made to handle upto 450 Watts if i remember correctly

Yeah, I saw the windfore cooler dissected, rather impressive. But as i have 2 bad experiences with gigabyte's coolers I think I'll pass on it. But it does look like a first class performer.

The best ones are the Asus Direct CU II and the Gigabyte Windforce 3x. The ACX would be slightly below those 2.

TF is showing better results than the DCU.

I have a direct cu 2 670 and it is so quiet I can't hear it in my rig. Not sure what direct cu 2 cards you have had bad experiences with, but I have never seen any that are loud.

I would say direct cu 2 and twin frozr, the MSI 780 lightning (twin frozr) looks the best though.

I got 2x 660 DCUII in my rig, they are awesome, but from what i've heard the 680 can get quite loud with the same cooler.

I can image the triple slot ones being more noisy, the 4gb one that is two slot is probably better.

I think everyone is just gonna say whichever brand they like most makes the best cooler.  unless someone tests every cooler on the same gpu I don't think we'll really know.  arctic cooling makes that liquid cooler, so thats prolly better than the air coolers, but other than that they're more or less the same

I love my acx's, the hottest it ever gets is 79 degrees on my top card, but the soundcard is directly underneathe it and it cant get enough fresh air I believe, the bottom card has an open air delivery and gets 64 degrees at its peak.

A few days ago I read this topic when I was waiting for my Asus 780 DC2 to get here and was going to start saying how amazing the DC2 is and how its soooooooo much better etc. etc. etc.  Then I read your post and figured you might be right, people are just saying whatever there fav brand is, so I thought Id wait to reply here until after I had gotten my 780.

Honestly, I was a bit surprised from the moment I put it in ... surprised as in disappointed =(.  Now I will be the first person to go on and on about how amazing Asus DC2 coolers are, they always seem to be the coolest cards and the most silent.  Coming from a 670 DC2 which is whisper quite, I was very very disappointed with the 780 DC2.  Cause it def. does not live up to the 670 DC2, thats for sure.  The Asus 780 DC2 acoustics was closer to my old reference 570, then it was to any aftermarket cooler.  The temps were still pretty good, I never went over 68degrees when gaming on ultra, but I just could NOT get over how loud the card was.  After spending 700$ on it (670 on card 30 on warranty), it was just too loud for me.  I dont know if I got a defective one or what, but I am RMA refunding it back since it is in my first week of having the card.

I still plan on going with an Asus ROG mobo and sound card, but after this 780 DC2, I dunno about graphics card. Its really turned me off from them which is upsetting because I was the biggest Asus fan boy ever lol, and now not so much.  Maybe I am too much of a silence freak but when the fans went over 40-50% speed, it just sounded like a jet was taking off in my PC.  I am considering the MSI TF 780 now, if I do get that one then ill see how much more loud / quite it is compared to the DC2 and then I guess Ill have a better idea of how good / bad the 780 DC2 is.
