well the 290 is just plain better, also 70$ cheaper, its a no brainer for me unless you want nvidia features, or just "purchase" (pirate dxtory) and play with the 290

I'd go for the 780, I'll take more stable drivers + NVIDIA features over higher heat output any day.

They are literally blow for blow depending on the game title. Some games favor the R9 290 while others the GTX 780. The differences aren't that great though so it boils down to price really. I personally would go with the R9 290 simply because it's cheaper.
